Shepherd Village is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) Coordinator. The FNS Coordinator will support the department while working in either a long-term care or retirement setting.
What You Will Work On
Reporting to the General Manager, Food and Nutrition Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for auditing, training, and supporting the dietary team to ensure full compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Homes Act, the Retirement Homes Act, quality assurance and safety standards, as well as Shepherd Village’s policies and procedures. This role fosters a collaborative team environment by engaging team members in problem-solving and customer satisfaction initiatives. The incumbent will actively participate in quality improvement activities and serve as a coach and mentor to the dietary staff. Additionally, they will monitor the daily performance of Dietary Aides and Cooks to ensure adherence to established standards and best practices.
How You’ll Create Impact
- Promoting residents’ physical, emotional, spiritual, and social health by participating in therapeutic programs and providing nutritional orientation and care.
- Ensuring compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols; conducting audits, attending meetings, and implementing quality improvements.
- Supervising, scheduling, coaching, and evaluating staff; supporting recruitment, maintaining employee records, and manage payroll submissions.
- Managing food preparations, service, menu compliance, inventory, and dining room audits to ensure high-quality and resident-appropriate meals.
- Participating in nutritional assessments, maintaining clinical records, updating diet information, and communicating changes to the dietary team.
What Are Your Skills and Experience
- Community College Diploma in Food Service Supervision OR University Degree in Nutrition/Food/Hospitality or equivalent.
- Eligible for CSNM membership.
- Previous supervisory experience in a long-term care setting or working with seniors.
- Proficient in food purchasing, production, and catering procedures.
- Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets and word processing.
- Experience with staff scheduling and payroll processing in a long-term care/retirement setting.
- Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written), and customer skills oriented towards the needs and challenges of older adults and their families, Shepherd Village staff, and other clients.
- Proven ability to lead in a unionized, team-based environment.
- Highly organized, adaptable, responsible, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Committed to maintaining confidentiality in all matters pertaining to the Organization.
- MUST be qualified to work in Canada legally for the employer.
