Job Description

Volunteer Position

Psychology DSC Members (positions below)

The Psychology Department Student Council (DSC) is currently seeking dedicated and creative students to join our executive team for the 2025-2026 academic year. As an executive member, you will have the opportunity to lead, organize, and promote various initiatives within the PSYC program, contributing to a vibrant and supportive student community.

Applications will close on August 22nd at 11:59PM.

    Time Commitment

    8 month-term from September 2025 to April 30th, 2026 with a time commitment of 3-4 hours/week.

    Role and Responsibilities:

    Marketing and Graphics Coordinator (2)
    -
    Design all graphics and promotional materials including stickers, merchandise, and logos for the DSC
    - Manage and regularly post content on the DSC Instagram account
    - Monitor and respond to messages and questions on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner
    - Collaborate with other DSC members to create engaging and informative campaigns to promote DSC events and initiatives
    - Attend weekly council meetings and other DSC events

    Events Coordinator (3)
    - Handle all event logistics, including submitting sanctioning forms (e.g. room bookings, hospitality approvals) to university departments
    - Work alongside DSC members to plan and execute academic and social events for Psychology students
    - Manage event timelines, budgeting, and vendor coordination to create engaging and memorable experiences for attendees
    - Attend weekly council meetings and other DSC events

    Brain Waves Coordinator (3)
    - Organize the Brain Waves event at Kingston schools at the end of the year, in collaboration with Brain Waves and Parachute Canada
    - Coordinate with schools to secure necessary resources and support (e.g. classroom space, equipment)
    - Recruit volunteers to assist with event planning and execution
    - Attend weekly council meetings and other DSC events
    Note: this role extends beyond the academic year due to its involvement with external organizations. Brain Waves Coordinators should not be on exchange in the winter term to ensure continuity of planning and execution.

    Mental Health Initiatives Coordinator (2)
    - Plan and implement mental health initiatives that take place throughout the academic year
    - Work alongside Events Coordinators to execute fundraisers for mental health organizations
    - Collaborate with other student groups and organizations on campus to promote mental health awareness

    Peer Mentorship Coordinator (2)
    - Run the DSC peer mentorship program to support first-year Psychology students
    - Recruit, select, and match upper-year mentors with incoming mentees based on shared interests and goals
    - Facilitate ongoing communication between mentor-mentee pairs and provide support throughout the year
    - Organize and lead mentorship-related events, such as socials and study nights
    - Attend weekly council meetings and other DSC events

    EDII Coordinator (1)
    - Act as a liaison between the DSC and Psychology EDI Committee
    - Coordinate EDII-related initiatives for the DSC, such as events like EDII in PSYC, that promote a culture of inclusion and diversity within the Psychology community at Queen’s
    - Work closely with the EDI Committee to ensure that the DSC’s initiatives are aligned with the broader EDII goals of the department
    - Attend weekly council meetings and other DSC events

    Outreach Coordinator (1)
    - Communicate with external parties, such as the Psychology office and other organizations on and off campus
    - Seek out potential partnerships and sponsorship opportunities for DSC events and initiatives
    - Attend weekly council meetings and other DSC events

    Year Reps (3)
    - Serve as a point of contact for students in their year who have questions or concerns about the program or the DSC
    - Promote DSC events and initiatives to students in their year
    - Organize events or initiatives that are relevant to their year, such as study groups or social events
    - Attend weekly council meetings and other DSC events

    Note: this role is for second-, third-, and fourth-year reps only. We will be hiring a first-year rep in mid September. Keep an eye out for updates!
