Volunteer Position
Life Sciences DSC Social Committee Members (5-6 positions)
The Life Sciences Departmental Student Council (DSC) is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated students to join our DSC Committee for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a volunteer position, open to all Life Sciences students from first to fourth year.
This application will be available until August 23rd, 2025 at 4PM EST.
Time Commitment and Remuneration

Roles and Responsibilities
- Attending weekly DSC meetings
- Advertising DSC events to LISC students
- Coordinate with other DSC members to organize events and joint initiatives
- Complete respective portfolio
ACADEMICS CO-CHAIR (2 positions available)
- Attend department-wide academic meetings as a Life Sciences representative
- Advocate for student academic needs and address academic questions from students
- Organize the 499/595 Information Night, where Life Sciences students may learn about specialization plans and 499/595 projects
- Continue Professor Mentorship Program, where students may communicate with professors in the Life Sciences Faculty
- Organize DSC run tutorials for Life Sciences courses
- Attend weekly council meetings and other events
Desired Qualities: Highly motivated, approachability, ability to work in a team, listening skills and leadership experience
SOCIAL CO-CHAIR (3 positions available)
- Work with the other social co-chairs to organize the annual Life Sciences Formal
- Hire and oversee a social committee to assist with planning/execution
- Plan events to engage Life Sciences students through various social events (eg. Drop-In Sessions, Care Packages, etc)
- Organize bi-monthly socials for the council
- Attend weekly council meetings and other events
Desired qualities: Ability to work with a team, creativity, event planning experience, organization, time management
EXTRACURRICULAR DIRECTOR (1 positions available)
- Coordinate intramural teams and attend as a captain
- Develop and execute new initiatives to promote mental and physical health (eg. Puppy Yoga, Workout Series, Active Day)
- Engage Life Sciences students by organizing initiatives, such as an Instagram takeover series
- Increase collaborations with other clubs and groups on campus
- Attend weekly council meetings and other events
Desired Qualities: Likes sports/activity, passion for mental and physical health, creativity, outgoing personality, works well with a team
PROSPECTIVE STUDENT FACILITATOR (1 position available)
- Represent Life Sciences at Fall Preview and Open Houses (tours if necessary)
- Promote Queen’s Life Sciences at University Fairs
- Hire a PSF committee and organize PSF committee meetings
- Inform prospective students about the Life Sciences program, and answer any questions pertaining to the Life Sciences program
- Attend weekly council meetings and other events
Desired Qualities: Strong communication skills, time management skills, highly personable, leadership experience and overall passion for the Life Sciences program!
*Note: Preference for Prospective Student Facilitator will go to past members of the PSF committee
STUDENT EXPERIENCE DIRECTOR (1 position available)
- Oversee the Life Sciences Buddy program, a peer mentorship program where upper-year Life Sciences students are paired with a lower-year Life Science students
- Help develop and host an upper-year buddy training program
- Hold monthly meetings with Co-Presidents and upper-year buddies
- Hire upper-year Buddies in the spring/summer
- Organize weekly “Office Hour” sessions on the Life Sciences Instagram story
- Develop new initiatives to improve student experience
Desired Qualities: Passion for the Life Sciences program and students, diligence with deadlines and maintaining communication, calm under pressure, leadership experience.
MARKETING DIRECTOR (1 position available)
- Work with and oversee associated intern
- Market all DSC Life Sciences events on all platforms
- Design eye-catching graphics required to promote events
- Manage social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
- Maintain the Life Sciences website
- Attend weekly council meetings and other events
Desired Qualities: Experience creating graphics, creativity, time-management skills, leadership experience, and experience across social media platforms
*Note: Applicants for Marketing Director will need to submit 2-3 sample graphics along with their application.
EDII DIRECTOR (1 position available)
- Work with members of the DSC to encourage incorporation of equity principles within the events organized
- Work with the associated intern and committee to plan at least one EDII-related event per semester
- Work with committee and various members of the DSC to create an equity master document for equity-deserving students within the program to access
- Research contributions made by equity-deserving students and faculty within the program to highlight on our social media/website
- Help to create content for equity-related times (ie Black History Month)
- Attend events run by the DSC
Desired Qualities: Strong sense of initiative, having a strong social awareness,
good communication skills, leadership experience, and being able to collaborate well within a team, passion for I-EDIAA principles.
YEAR REPRESENTATIVES
Advocate and act as a point of contact for their respective Life Sciences class.
- Second Year Rep (1):
- Plan and execute the large-scale Life Sciences clothing sale, alongside the first year rep
- Third Year Rep (1):
- Organize the Trivia/Drinks with Profs event
- Career services workshop (Networking, Resume/CV, Cover Letters, and Interview Skills)
- Fourth Year Rep (1):
- Organize the Life After LifeSci event
- Fourth Year send off
