Role description:
We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead and oversee the design and implementation of rail infrastructure projects. The Technical Director will be responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of design projects, from initial concept through to completion, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and innovation.
This role sits in our Mobility Global Business Area (GBA). We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today’s mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world’s growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods.
Role accountabilities:
- Provide strategic technical leadership across all phases of rail and transit projects, including planning, design, and delivery.
- Oversee and integrate multidisciplinary design teams (civil, structural, systems, electrical, signaling, architecture) to ensure cohesive and high-quality solutions.
- Act as the technical lead in client engagements, design reviews, and project governance forums.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., AREMA, CENELEC, Metrolinx, TTC).
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in design methodologies, digital delivery, and sustainability.
- Support business development efforts, including proposal strategy, technical positioning, and client presentations.
- Mentor senior engineers and technical staff, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks, ensuring robust quality assurance and control processes.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum 15 years of experience in rail and transit infrastructure, with a strong track record of technical leadership on major projects.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Systems, or related discipline).
- P.Eng. license in Ontario is preferred; candidates must be eligible to obtain licensure.
- Extensive knowledge of Canadian transit standards, procurement models (e.g., P3), and stakeholder environments.
- Proven ability to lead large, complex, multidisciplinary teams and deliver high-impact outcomes.
- Strong communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills.
