Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

The Ontario Line subway program seeks three (3) dynamic Senior Advisors to join our Community Engagement team to provide leadership, guidance and support to colleagues, management teams, key community groups and stakeholders. These critical team members will be assigned to a portion of the Ontario Line subway under construction and work with other staff to develop strategic plans, reduce construction impacts, and help Metrolinx be a good neighbour in the communities where it builds. Proactive communications planning, team leadership, and managing special projects are essential parts of the role.
What will I be doing?
- Works collaboratively with members of the community engagement team across various programs, the senior management team and subject matter experts across the organization to develop policies, annual business plans, lead projects and manage contentious or emerging issues; provides subject matter expertise and advice to assist with planning and implementation to ensure successful outcomes.
- Takes initiative to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities independently to support Ontario Line construction and to reduce its impacts on communities.
- Serves as a public-facing representative of Metrolinx by organizing and facilitating public meetings and building relationships with external stakeholders to seek advice about reaching the shared goal of building the Ontario Line while minimizing the impacts of construction.
- Supports creation of multi-channel construction content, reports, presentations, and strategies, including working with colleagues to use the web and social media to inform residents and businesses about upcoming construction.
- Initiates and supports development of reports, presentations, engagement and
- Leads data monitoring and evaluation; tracks KPIs; ensures consistency across the team; develops data in dashboards and synthesizes meaningful information for reporting, analysis, presentation and strategic planning.
- Regularly conduct construction site visits to understand the stage and scale of work and to monitor for impacts on the surrounding neighbourhood.
- Develops and maintains a strong network with internal and external partners to coordinate projects, set priorities and deadlines and share best practices.
- Leads continuous improvement projects using LEAN methodology and best practices to create operational efficiencies in the Communications division.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in communications, public administration, urban planning, community engagement, business administration or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated progressive experience, ideally in the public sector, developing business/strategic plans and drafting outreach plans and communications products to convey complex and sensitive information
- Demonstrated project management experience to plan, organize, and coordinate internal and external resources engaged in communications project activities to meet timelines, budget limitations, and adhere to quality control standards and best practices.
- Strong influencing/negotiating as well as political acumen capabilities to deal with a variety of stakeholders, agencies and staff to ensure successful outcomes and achieve goals.
- Analytical skills to analyze business needs and identify and assess communications risks and impacts on company reputation and develop recommendations for corrective action.
- Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation communication skills to facilitate public meetings, present at public events, and write a variety of communications products, presentations and reports,
- Knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of communications and public relations.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Ability to learn a variety of project management, customer relationship management, and stakeholder management software applications.
