Ontario Line South

Ferrovial Construction Canada Inc. and VINCI Construction Grands Projects are to design, build and finance the Ontario Line Southern Civil, Stations and Tunnel (South Civil) package.

Working together as Ontario Transit Group we are currently mobilizing our design and construction crews, with major works to commence in 2023. The South Civil contract is anticipated to be completed in 2030.

The project will strengthen Ontario’s economy by supporting an estimated 1,500 jobs at the peak of construction.

What is the project?

  • A six-kilometer tunnel and associated tunnelling works from Exhibition to Don Yard portal (west of the Don River)
  • Stations:
    • One above-ground station to be integrated with the existing GO Transit Exhibition Station
    • Two underground stations to be integrated with the existing TTC Osgoode and Queen subway stations
    • Four new underground stations (King/Bathurst, Queen/Spadina, Moss Park, Corktown)

Job Description:

Ontario Transit Group (OTG) is seeking a Quality Inspector to perform inspections and testing of construction work and materials related to quality control and assurance. The Quality Inspector will be responsible for verifying work progress, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and managing the Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). The successful candidate will collaborate with the Quality Team, external contractors, and third-party testing companies to ensure the highest quality standards are met on the Ontario Line South Project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quality Verification:
    • Verify that site work is progressing in accordance with Issued for Construction drawings, shop drawings, Work Method Statements, the Construction Quality Management Plan (CQMP), and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
  • Documentation:
    • Ensure that line items in the ITPs are signed off in real time, with supporting documents available upon completion of each activity.
    • Document and close ITPs upon completion of all related activities and coordinate with the Document Control team to upload completed ITPs.
  • Non-Conformance Management:
    • Initiate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for any work or materials that fail to meet project requirements.
    • Liaise with relevant teams to provide corrective actions and follow up to ensure NCRs are closed within the required timelines.
  • Material Inspection:
    • Ensure that all materials delivered to the site meet project specifications.
    • Coordinate with third-party testing companies to schedule inspections and tests for construction materials.
  • Progress Monitoring:
    • Monitor the progress of work in relation to the project schedule and report any observed delays to the Construction Quality Control Manager.
  • Meetings & Reporting:
    • Attend site-specific meetings to provide quality updates.
    • Assist with internal, JV partners, and client reporting on quality aspects of the project.
  • Quality Culture:
    • Promote and implement a culture of quality on the project by sharing best practices and communicating internal and external quality alerts.
Qualifications:
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a quality inspector, with experience in transit projects in Ontario preferred.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree or Certified Engineering Technologist in Civil Engineering or Architecture.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Experience working with Ontario Provincial Standard Specifications (OPSS), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), American Concrete Institute (ACI) specifications, TTC & Metrolinx specifications, and Construction Administration and Inspection Task Manual.
    • Familiarity with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) and managing non-conformances.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
    • Experience with document management software such as SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud, BIM360, ProjectWise, and Procore is an asset.
    • Excellent organization and communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
