Your opportunity:


Working with a dynamic team and under the general direction of the Director, Student Engagement and Campus Life, you will be dedicated to the enrichment of the co-curricular life of the campus, focused on programming to develop critical intercultural and interfaith skills amongst the UTSC community. As the Intercultural Education Program Coordinator, your role will consist of developing, coordinating and evaluating intercultural co-curricular experiential learning opportunities, with:

 

  • an emphasis on student development and equity. This will involve fostering an open and inclusive world view environment;
  • organizing and facilitating student development workshops;
  • recruiting and training work-study students;
  • and developing innovative programming that celebrates the cultural diversity present at UTSC and encourages students to critically question their identities and culture.

 

Your work will involve extensive partnerships and communication with campus and tri-campus stakeholders. In addition to building strong community partnerships, you will work closely with the other positions within the Office of Student Experience and Wellbeing, as well as other campus partners such as the various co-op programs, academic departments, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Office, St. George’s Centre for International Experience and UTM’s International Education Centre. Your work will be informed by relevant research, anti-oppression and intercultural theory, and will consult with a broad range of student groups and student services.


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Promoting experiential learning opportunities
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum four (4) years related experience in student development at the post-secondary level in intercultural and interfaith settings
  • Strong experiential background in student life issues within a diverse environment
  • Strong experience in program management, event planning and coordination
  • Sound experience developing and delivering intercultural training and awareness
  • Experience working with diverse communities and an understanding of international and transition student issues
  • Experience building partnerships and collaborating with different stakeholders
  • Experience working from an anti-oppressive and equity framework
  • Strong knowledge of international education issues and trends is required
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), organizational and interpersonal skills required, along with excellent demonstrated public speaking experience and presentation skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must possess the ability to relate to students in a manner which builds trust and confidence and be able to demonstrate the ability to implement programs
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and tight timeframes
  • Must be comfortable working independently and in a team environment
  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends
