Faculty/Division: Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering
Department: Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering
Campus: St. George (Downtown Toronto)
Description:
The potential use of Rydberg atoms as sensing devices opens up several avenues for research, both in communications and sensing. The goal of this effort is to understand the benefits and potential pitfalls of the use of Rydberg receivers. Of specific interest is the use of Rydberg receivers in interference limited settings, analyzing the limitations of Rydberg receivers such as, but not limited to, their sensitivity to measurement time, frequency uncertainty, measurement noise. Further topics of interest are the use of Rydberg receivers as sensors to measure incident fields. The optimization of these receivers is of interest, particularly the potential use of machine learning in the optimization process. Laboratory and supervisory support will be provided by Prof. Raviraj Adve.
Duties:
- Research into Rydberg receivers developing their benefits and limitations
- Present progress reports to sponsor and supervisor (in weekly meetings or as scheduled if weekly meetings are not possible)
- Document results in research publications such as journal and conference paper
- Present at conferences
Qualifications:
- PhD in Electrical Engineering
- Documented research experience in related fields of interest, specifically in:
- Wireless communications
- Digital communications
- Wireless networks
- Optimization theory
- Machine learning approaches
- Non-classical communications, especially the use Rydberg receivers
Required Documents:
Candidates are requested to submit a comprehensive cover letter that summarizes the research experience of the applicant and a CV.
