Communications & Public Affairs develops communication plans and strategies to support the strategic goals of the Faculty of Arts & Science. Amazing things happen here every day and we love to tell the stories about the strengths and achievements of our community. We promote the Faculty’s reputation and support internal communications via internal and external media. Our areas of focus include news and media relations, marketing and design, digital content management and communications planning and output that responds to the needs of our diverse audiences including students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors. Communications leadership and support is also provided for initiatives arising out of the various administrative units within the Dean’s Office.
Your opportunity:
Working as part of the Office of Communications & Public Affairs team and under the work direction of the Director, Stakeholder Communications & Marketing.
The incumbent will be implementing digital communication plans and strategies across a broad range of marketing communication channels with a focus on the faculty’s website and departmental templates. They will work in collaboration with A&S senior communications and web liaison specialists and the associate director, digital communications, to assist with the Drupal 11 project. The incumbent will carry out tasks associated with content migration, QA testing, layout updates, training and general web updates to the A&S website and other A&S departmental/unit websites as assigned. Creating and/or editing original, published content and materials. Writing and editing copy and content to advance communications objectives. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders regarding story development and cross-promotion activities.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing digital communications plans across a broad range of marketing communications channels; Advise on best practices and strategies to maximize digital communications initiatives
- Creating and/or editing original, published content and materials
- QA testing for A&S sites, departmental sites; Troubleshoot website content/layout issues reported by website content editors
- Assisting with migration
- Providing website training, including ability to effectively explain and communicate website tasks to staff with little to no website experience
- Writing engaging website copy following web writing best practices and accessibility standards
- Resolving minor complaints about content and technical errors, referring larger issues when appropriate
- Troubleshooting upgrades and improvements to websites; Responding to client queries clearly and professionally
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum five (5) years relevant experience in online communications, digital media and communications, website maintenance/development and content creation for a variety of digital channels
- Experience guiding web redevelopment projects from conception through to completion/launch
- Experience with project planning, editorial development, writing and editing for web and digital communications
- Experience with image editing in Adobe Photoshop [i.e., resizing, cropping, optimizing etc.]
- Demonstrated experience working in Microsoft Excel, including creating and maintaining spreadsheets throughout a project’s lifecycle
- Experience developing and updating website content using Drupal (preferred), WordPress, HTML or another CMS
- Experience in web design, digital marketing and digital communications
- Demonstrated client-service focus and experience in a client- service environment
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
- Excellent copywriting and editing skills for final content for web and digital communications, including fluency in English grammar and spelling, and the ability to edit and proofread
- Proficiency with web user experience principles and guidelines and legislation around accessibility standards
- Strong project management skills applicable to web and digital production
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Proven experience working independently with a high attention to detail

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band 13 -- $86,340. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $110,415. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
