The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology is one of the largest departments of its kind in North America, with internationally renowned and award-winning faculty. The Graduate and Career’s Program Manager oversees the administration and delivery of the EEB tri-campus graduate programs and career development services for EEB graduate students. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and working closely with the Associate Chair (Graduate Studies) and other faculty leadership, the Manager ensures the effective administration of the EEB graduate programs, advises faculty on graduate matters, and provides academic advising and career development services to support a diverse graduate student population.
This role is key to enhancing the student experience from admission through graduation,developing and delivering program components to foster students' individual career development, building partnerships with employers and alumni, and managing career readiness initiatives, including workshops, seminars, events, and networking opportunities with alumni and employers. The Manager also analyzes statistical information to inform enrollment projections and planning, and reviews service delivery and internal processes to recommend improvements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
- Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
- Analyzing statistical information to inform enrollment projections and planning
- Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
- Developing program components to foster students' individual career development process
- Developing student assessment plans to support student learning outcomes and competencies
- Developing plans that support and enhance career services program visibility
- Developing strategies that maximize outreach to students
- Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree plus Post Graduate Certificate or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of recent and relevant experience in program administration, academic advising, career development, student placement and student services, preferably in a university environment.
- Experience coordinating graduate program operations and managing career development initiatives.
- Experience in career development process and assessment plans to support student learning outcomes.
- Experience in developing plans that support and enhance career services program visibility.
- Experience counselling students with career options and providing relevant information.
- Experience applying and interpreting academic guidelines and procedures and advising students and faculties.
- Experience in planning and organizing events for student work-integrated learning activities.
- Experience with Facilitating educational workshops and seminars.
- Experience working with ROSI, ROSI Express and Degree Explorer or other student related systems.
- Extensive knowledge of University policy and procedure with emphasis on FAS.
- Advanced skills in MS Office including Word and Excel with the ability to organize data and generating reports.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Professional demeanor with a strong customer service orientation and effective interpersonal skills to effectively deal with students, staff and faculty.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Familiarity with the Faculty of Arts and Science, the School of Graduate Studies practices and procedures.

USW Pay Band 13 -- $86,340. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $110,415. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
