What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Enterprise Solutions, and part of the operational applications group, the Manager will be responsible for leading a team focused on the advancement, development and integration of geospatial technologies. This role ensures spatial data is leveraged to optimize project delivery and operational efficiency providing enterprise-wide support and advancement of Geospatial solutions at Aecon.
What You'll Do Here:
- Develop and execute GIS solution strategies aligned with IS and Operations’ goals
- Champion centralized geospatial data management and integration with business workflows working closely with Business users to develop product roadmaps and services.
- Facilitate discussion internally and externally to optimize the use of data, technology and digital tactics to improve end user experience working closely with engineering, construction, operations and IT teams to align geospatial solutions with business needs
- Manage the lifecycle of geospatial applications and tools
- Lead Geospatial initiatives supporting asset lifecycle management, network design and field service optimization
- Deploy the appropriate technical resources to support the organizational goals and objectives
- Integrate GIS with enterprise systems such as SCADA, ERP, CMMS and BIM platforms
- Support mobile GIS applications for field crews and construction teams
- Evaluate and implement emerging technologies (e.g. LIDAR, 3D Mapping, AI-based spatial analytics)
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of spatial databases for assets
- Communicate technical concepts to stakeholders across all levels.
- Manage a team of functional and technical staff, fostering continuous development through coaching and training
- Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement in geospatial practices.
- Conduct system audits related to Operational tools, enforce IS change management processes and maintain information security controls in conjunction with Enterprise Application governance team
- Manage vendor licensing to ensure products are allocated properly and costs are managed.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Information Technology or related field.
- 5-10 years of Geospatial experience (working across multiple platforms, administration and solutioning)
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience.
- Proven experience with Geographic Information Systems and ESRI products.
- Experience with other data collection tools and software in this space (Bentley, LIDAR etc.)
- Innovative mindset with ability to solve specific project requirements.
- Understanding construction software and tools and data that reside there.
- Understanding of geospatial data standards (e.g. FGDC, ISO) and safety/regulatory frameworks
- High learning agility and ability to influence business application roadmaps
- Experience supporting geospatial integration in nuclear, civil, or industrial sectors an asset.
- Experience working in IS organization.
- Demonstrated ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- Strong understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other enterprises are employing them to drive digital innovation, and how they may be applied to the enterprise to drive a digital business
- Ability to manage collocated and remote teams
- Demonstrated experience communicating cross-functionally and across management levels
- Proven ability to manage a technical team and sustain employee engagement
