JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Senior Training Specialist.

 

Reporting to the Training Manager, this position is responsible for leading the delivery of world class training in the Trades & Technology (Mechanical & Electrical) division of our business while providing supervision over the development of specialized programs. This role will also support the success of the broader RG Training team in Operations, Health & Safety, Innovation & Design and communications through our Senior Training Advisor team. Oversight of the evaluation and implementation of learning events, collaboration with management, addressing performance issues, managing resources, schedules, and costs for effective program delivery are all critical to the success of this role.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 

  • Provide leadership to ensure the delivery of expert training while supporting all internal services and polices pertaining to Information Technology, Facility Protocols and Health and Safety standards and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain training standards and stay current with best practices and emerging technologies. 
  • Lead and coordinate training task groups and project teams, reviewing and directing current and future training activities to align with long-term objectives. 
  • Assess and identify areas for improvement in current practices, and anticipate future training requirements to ensure alignment with organizational goals. 
  • Plan for long-range user requirements and integrate them into resource and development planning for new or revised training systems. 
  • Design, develop, implement, and evaluate customized and ongoing training programs, maintaining continuous liaison with management to assess needs and program effectiveness. 
  • Supervise training projects by planning work, guiding staff, monitoring progress, and serving as an expert on interdepartmental programs.
  • Provide or recommend training in specialty areas through various delivery methods such as courses, seminars, workshops, and on-the-job training. 
  • Collaborate with management to analyze human performance problems, identify skill deficiencies, and determine effective solutions to address training needs. 
  • Organize and coordinate resources, develop project schedules, and control costs in producing specialized training programs and systems. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires 4 year University Degree 
  • Educational credentials in the fields of Education (Adult Education Preferred), Business Administration, Human Resources are considered an asset 
  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of relevant working experience  
  • Experience with and an understanding of Mechanical and Electrical operations and training is an asset 
  • Strong people leadership skills required
  • Clear understanding of Adult Education principles (2-5 years teaching experience is an asset)
  • Project management expertise is an asset 
  • Knowledge of / experience with drawing, blueprints, sketches. Comfortable reading and understanding
  • Experience in preventative and corrective maintenance and knowledge of hydroelectric power generation equipment is an asset
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, excellent judgment and problem-solving skills

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
