Purpose
The Director of Strategic Initiatives is responsible for supporting the SVP, Chief Operating Officer in International Banking with the successful deployment of the business strategy, select initiatives and key projects in support of the business line Strategy. The Director, Strategic Initiatives, will engage senior leadership in International Banking, liaising with Enterprise Strategy, and connecting with multiple stakeholders in Head Office and the countries. This position will play a key role in executing the Bank's strategic agenda while ensuring all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
What You’ll Do:
- Supports a strategy and stakeholder focused culture. Enables the Group Head to deepen client relationships and leverages broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge
- Acts as a trusted partner to the IB COO helping him/her define priorities and ensuring he/she is set up to achieve them. This includes interacting with senior bank leaders, external stakeholders, the Enterprise Strategy team, IB's Executive Committee, and all supporting functions of the Bank, including Retail, Wealth and Wholesale Banking, GTB, Finance, Communications and Human Resources
- Develops and maintains strong knowledge of overall group strategy and goals and builds an understanding of the critical work that is happening across the division and surfacing issues, bright spots, and challenges
- Supports the development of change initiatives and contributes to the development of strategic priorities and short- and long-term vision plans in collaboration with International Banking’s Leadership and Enterprise Strategy executives
- Works collaboratively with Enterprise Strategy Team and in-country Strategic Initiatives teams to builds high-standard presentations for senior leadership, with particular attention to detail and the interrelation between various strategic objectives and goals across International Banking (i.e. year-end performance activities)
- Collects and synthesizes quantitative and qualitative business performance data from multiple sources,identifies opportunities for synergies to drive operational awareness, formulates recommendations and validates with key stakeholders
- Works closely with IB Finance and Investor Relations to review (or prepare) IB Group Head for investor marketing, quartern end analyst calls and other media or investor events.
- In close partnership with Global Communications, identifies strategic communication opportunities. Supports coordination and planning of events, internally and externally, and works with Global Communications to ensure consistent messaging across all groups of stakeholders
- Understands how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet operational risk limits, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct
- Champions a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
What You'll Bring:
- Over 10 years of corporate experience required (internal or external consulting, finance or corporate development)
- MBA is highly desirable
- Proven track record in strategy development, including in-depth experience and demonstrated success in leading multi-disciplinary initiatives of varying sizes and complexity, efficiently and effectively, ensuring all elements of change are considered, understood and managed.
- Strong organizational skills to coordinate and prioritize several concurrent projects.
- Excellent visionary, planning and analytical skills.
- Thorough understanding of high-quality executive level (EVP+) standards in terms of presentation material and written communication.
- People-oriented acumen, with strong negotiating, influencing and communication skills (written and oral) to influence all levels of the organization through insight based on sound investigation experiences.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that facilitate a positive and effective team environment at all levels of the organization.
- High credibility with the Bank's senior management team and business line and other functional area management teams.
