The Locomotive Engineer is responsible for the safe operation of locomotives, complying with all train orders, wayside signals, railroad operating rules, special instructions, federal, provincial and local regulations to transport passengers safely and efficiently. 

 

Duties: 

  • Operates trains during various work hours and in GO Transit service while maintaining alertness, situational awareness and vigilance 
  • Provide service through the application of a high level of technical expertise related to the safe quality service in order to meet the customer specified train schedule. 
  • Adhere to established operating rules, speed restrictions and regulatory requirements, initiate remedial action to eliminate undesirable train operation practices and communicate with traffic control any issues or problems that may hinder the safe operation of the system. 
  • Report and communicate with Maintenance staff in order to correct defects that could affect train performance on the road. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

  • Must be a fully qualified Locomotive Engineer 
  • Recent certification as a Locomotive Engineer in the last 2 years with the ability to successfully complete training and recertify may be considered.
  • Ability to pass Safety Critical medical.
