ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Sr Director, Canada Online Merchandising is responsible for managing the Digital merchandising channel for Sephora Canada. This role leads and drives the Sephora online merchandising strategy, serving as the foundation for achieving short- and long-term financial sales objectives across Sephora.CA and the Total Sephora Canada business. This individual is a key collaborator with .CA Marketing, .CA Inventory Planning, and .com Merchandising teams, ensuring cohesive strategies and achievement of shared organizational goals.

This role demands a visionary leader with a deep understanding of the Canadian e-commerce landscape, a passion for beauty, and a proven ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.

 

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Online Merchandising Leadership & Strategy:

  • Develop the overall Canadian online merchandising strategy, collaborate with Brands to build strong short- and long-term growth plans, and source what is needed to differentiate the online business.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Canada brick & mortar Merchandising team, ensuring online strategies effectively support and amplify in-store initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the US digital Merchandising team on site strategies, functional enhancements to .CA to implement effectively in Canada
  • Leverage  in-depth analysis of online performance to provide actionable insights and  recommendations to our brands partners, optimizing their performance with Sephora and overall online experience’
  • Develop a forward-thinking strategy for sustained growth within the evolving Canadian e-commerce landscape, identifying new opportunities and mitigating potential risks.
  • Act as a strategic partner to Category Merchandising Leaders, providing guidance and support for brand development strategies that synergize online and offline channels.

Financial Planning:

  • Establish online sales objectives by World and review/approve brand targets & forecasts.
  • Analyze the online business through online reporting tools (eg: Omniture), proactively providing insights to B&M merchandising partners and Brands; making timely adjustments to online merchandising to optimize sales.
  • Communicate financial goals and review them constantly with merchants, planners, and marketing partners, fostering a data-driven approach to decision-making.

Collaboration with cross-functional partners:

  • Drive innovation by identifying, developing, and testing new brands, new functionality, and expanded assortments for potential expansion on Sephora.CA, Canada B&M, and US.COM
  • Partner strategically with the Inventory team to help forecast newness, online exclusives, limited edition & seasonal buys.
  • Lead and actively participate in cross-functional strategic projects, contributing expertise and insights to achieve shared objectives.

Team Leadership & Development: 

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing online merchandising team. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Empower team members to take ownership, make informed decisions, and contribute to the overall success of the online channel. Motivate, develop and coach the buying organization with the ability to work alongside individual team members as a day-to-day partner in moving the business forward.

Site & E-Mail Merchandising:

  • Drive marketing strategies via the website and email for key new product launches and focuses, and company product initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Online Marketing to establish strategic priorities for email campaigns and homepage content, maximizing impact and engagement.
  • Ensure products are merchandised strategically throughout the site, APP, Desktop & Mobile. Leverage site analytics to optimize sales and conversion.
  • Determine any opportunities related to app exclusives to drive growth and engagement within this channel. Partner with marketing to drive the creation of compelling site content  that will increase traffic, conversion, and sales.
  • Ensure there is partnership with the Product Production team to optimize site maintenance and functionality, delivering seamless user experience.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Minimum 5 years of digital experience, including a management level in a top-tier, specialty retail or department store environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in e-commerce (e-retail and/or direct-to-consumer) is mandatory.
  • Strong business acumen with a proven track record of driving profitable growth in a competitive environment.
  • A mature, strong leader, committed to winning long-term success through an understanding of the market, a consistent focus on the customer, and a commitment to training and the in-store experience.
  • Proven track record in managing, building, and nurturing multiple brands, as well as a true passion for the respective product category.
  • Possesses exceptional strategic acumen, with the ability to develop long-range plans that drive business results while remaining agile and responsive to changing market dynamics, even with incomplete information. A results-oriented leader who takes ownership, effectively leverages resources, and maintains team alignment through clear communication and a focused approach. Demonstrates a proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships across organizational boundaries, leveraging both formal and informal networks to achieve results.
  • Exhibits strong decision-making, analytical, and creative problem-solving skills, with a deep understanding of critical success factors within the merchandising function. A proven leader who inspires, motivates, and develops high-performing teams through coaching, mentorship, and challenging assignments.
