Sakhi for South Asian Survivors (Sakhi) exists to represent the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean diaspora in a survivor-led movement for gender justice and to honor the collective and inherent power of all survivors of violence. Sakhi is committed to serving survivors through a combination of efforts, including—but not limited to—direct services, advocacy, and organizing technical assistance, and community outreach.
Sakhi serves survivors from the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean diaspora who trace their backgrounds to Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, and Africa. Members of our community come from diverse backgrounds, including age range, religion, ethnic origin, economic and educational background, language spoken, and immigration status. We work to represent, inform, actively engage, and mobilize the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean community in an intersectional, intergenerational survivor-led movement for gender justice.

About this role:
Sakhi is looking for a full-time Economic Empowerment Program Advocate to provide holistic financial empowerment services to survivors of gender-based violence. The Advocate will report to the Manager of the Economic Empowerment Program and will work collaboratively with the larger Sakhi team to ensure services to survivors are being delivered in a timely and effective manner.
Position Responsibilities
Case Management, Cross-Organizational Programming & Advocacy
Provide holistic and trauma-informed case management services by collaboratively developing and implementing both short-term and long-term empowerment goals with Survivors.
Provide assistance and advocacy to Survivors navigating the Human Resource Administration (HRA) documentation and application process.
Accompany and/or provide advocacy for survivors to HRA offices, financial clinics, and tax clinics when required
Assist with career readiness activities, including resume and job training workshops, and participation in career fairs.
Assist survivors in their higher educational pursuits by researching academic programs, available scholarships, and grants as needed
Refer and guide survivors through vocational training programs such as computer training, ESL classes, culinary schools, etc, as needed
Coordinate and facilitate quarterly Financial Literacy workshops for Survivors and facilitate one-on-one personal financial management sessions as needed.
Develop, coordinate, and facilitate bi-monthly capacity-building workshops.
Coordinate with and manage interns and volunteers for EE program activities
Assist other Sakhi team members with cross-organizational efforts
Program Documentation and Development
Maintain up-to-date records of all survivor-related work/activities through efficient data collection in Salesforce
Compile and provide program data and reports as needed for projects and grants
Attend weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly team and staff meetings and check-ins to foster understanding, communication, and growth as a team member
Participate in interagency meetings, trainings, and workshops pertinent to economic empowerment services provided at Sakhi
Pursue additional education (in-services, seminars, self-study programs) to advance skills and knowledge
Support monitoring and evaluation activities through post-workshop surveys, feedback collection, and highlighting key activities to strengthen program design.
Required Qualifications
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with relevant work experience in the financial/asset skills-building and career development sector
Fluency in Bengali required
Proven success in a range of economic empowerment/self-sufficiency activities
A background in gender justice is preferred
Experience with community-based work and ability to engage with diverse communities and audiences
U.S. Work authorization required
Experience working with multiple staff, volunteers, and program responsibilities
Ability to work well under pressure and juggle multiple time-sensitive tasks
Ability to work through flexible hours and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal, writing, and organization skills preferred
Excellent public speaking skills and leadership qualities are preferred
This is a full-time role (35 hours a week) that requires flexibility with the schedule. Sakhi’s office hours are Monday - Friday, 10 am-6 pm, and the offices are closed the last week of August and the last week of December. Staff members have the flexibility to organize their 35 hours over a four-day work week. Some evenings and weekends will be required. Salary is $65k commensurate with experience. Sakhi offers health and dental benefits, unlimited PTO, paid parental leave, and all full-time team members have access to a mental health clinician.
