Job Description

Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic I
Location: DeKalb, IL
Reports To: Shift Supervisor
Schedule: Monday–Thursday (10-hour shift)
Pay Range: $26.58/hour

Overview

While reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, this role outlines the essential functions expected of a Maintenance Mechanic I. The list below is not exhaustive—employees are expected to assume any and all duties assigned by management, whether or not they are specifically listed here.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and adjust equipment as needed.

  • Perform equipment changeovers according to production demands.

  • Provide preventative maintenance to plant equipment.

  • Rebuild presses and support equipment.

  • Evaluate/maintain hand tools for condition and compliance.

  • Read and understand mechanical prints; basic knowledge of motors and controls.

  • Use hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely.

  • Support continuous improvement of skills as outlined by the maintenance training matrix.

  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates, including giving/receiving feedback.

  • Work cooperatively as part of a natural work team.

  • Work schedule is 40–48 hours per week plus overtime as required.

  • Accurately document maintenance records using CMMS system.

  • Carry out additional duties as requested by supervisor.

Preferred Skills and Attributes:

We’re seeking candidates who are eager to learn maintenance processes and develop maintenance skills. Ideal candidates may bring some experience with:

  • Plumbing

  • 110v electrical

  • Hands-on mechanical or trade work

  • Are comfortable with physical work including lifting (10–50 lbs), bending, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching frequently.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited electromechanical associate degree or equivalent schooling/experience preferred.

  • Successful completion of ACT Work Keys Assessments at minimum requirements.

  • Completion of mechanical aptitude testing at minimum requirement.

  • Mechanical, machinist, electrical, or trade-related background preferred.
