In this classification, the individual is responsible for overseeing engineering teams, coordinating multi-disciplinary projects, and ensuring excellence in both technical execution and operational performance. The Managing Engineer not only drives the strategic direction of project development but also shapes the culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement across engineering functions. This role is ideal for professionals who excel at bridging the gap between engineering challenges and business objectives, while fostering an environment that encourages professional growth and technical collaboration.

Primary Responsibilities

Supervise, mentor, and develop engineering teams to build a high-performing and engaged group. Oversee resource management, ensuring that projects are fashioned appropriately to meet deadlines and quality benchmarks. Facilitate regular team meetings and one-on-ones, providing constructive feedback and performance assessments. Define project scope, objectives, timelines, and budgets in alignment with organizational strategy. Coordinate with cross-functional teams—such as product management, quality assurance, and operations—to ensure project coherence. Monitor project milestones, track deliverables, and implement corrective actions to keep projects on schedule. Review and approve technical designs, ensuring adherence to industry standards and best practices. Serve as the principal subject matter expert, guiding the team on complex technical challenges and troubleshooting emerging issues. Evaluate and integrate innovative technologies, processes, or tools that enhance productivity and quality. Act as a key liaison between the engineering sections and executive leadership, translating technical requirements into actionable business strategies. Prepare and present technical reports, project updates, and risk assessments to both internal and external personnel. Ensure transparent communication across teams, fostering an environment of accountability and collaboration. Establish and enforce engineering best practices and quality control standards. Lead post-project reviews to analyze successes and areas for improvement and implement lessons learned. Promote and support initiatives for process enhancement, efficiency, and innovation.

Knowledge and Skills

Strong interpersonal skills enabling effective leadership, mentorship, and team building. Capable of driving organizational change and cultivating a culture of innovation and accountability. Deep technical knowledge and the ability to understand and critically assess complex engineering problems. Experience with modern design methodologies, process improvement strategies, and emerging technologies. Proficient in planning, coordinating, and executing projects while managing multiple priorities. Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Agile, Lean, or Project Management Professional) that drive operational efficiency. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate technical information to non-technical audiences. Proven ability to collaborate across sections and external personnel to deliver integrated solutions. Demonstrated analytical skills applied to troubleshooting, risk management, and strategic decision-making. Ability to foresee challenges, evaluate alternatives, and implement sustainable solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license as issued by the appropriate state licensing board. Attainment of this license ordinarily involves passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam followed by the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) exam. Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience, including complex design projects and a track record of adherence to regulatory and quality standards. Extensive experience in project management, system design, and the practical application of modern engineering practices. A solid record of successful project delivery and demonstrable results in innovation or process excellence. Familiarity with the specific tools, regulatory requirements, or market dynamics of the industry assists in aligning technical strategies with business goals.
