Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.



Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree

Valid Texas teaching certificate in secondary content area
 
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) including Canvas and Google Suite

Serve as a student advocate to provide direction and support by creating and monitoring processes that will ensure student success in the online environment

Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Frisco RAIL

Highly skilled at implementing exemplary educational practices resulting in demonstrated student achievement gains

Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes

Ability to use effective strategies in differentiating instruction

Knowledge of curriculum and instructional best practices for online learning

Demonstrate operational knowledge of a variety of technology equipment, including Internet and web-related technologies

Ability to listen and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and administrators

Demonstrated effective data-based problem-solving skills

Demonstrated competency in the academic subject area assigned

 

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years secondary teaching experience in a classroom setting

Experience teaching online preferred

Previous work with at-risk students preferred



Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies:
Implement instruction that aligns with the mission and vision of the Frisco RAIL.

Foster instructional activities that contribute to a positive environment where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

Use a variety of programs and software applications, as appropriate, to complete instructional and administrative tasks, including Google Suite.

Use formative and summative assessments in order to differentiate and improve instructional practices and strategies and provide feedback to students and parents.

Participate in teacher training and other professional learning opportunities as scheduled by the supervisor. 

Exhibit a willingness to work a flexible online schedule including evening and weekend hours.

 

Program Management and Classroom Culture:

Coordinate students enrolled in Frisco RAIL courses, including orientation and open houses.

Assist with student placement and academic plan.

Assist students and parents with technical support.

Communicate and collaborate with co-teachers for a positive and efficient learning experience.

Promote student self-advocacy and self-directed learning.


Communication:
Collaborate with the instructional team concerning student educational needs as requested.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, peers, and other stakeholders, on matters relating to courses, attendance, participation, and other processes.

Clearly articulate deadlines, schedules, and procedures to students and parents to ensure that students complete coursework in a timely manner.

Assist in providing information to community groups, social media, schools, and parents about Frisco RAIL.


Monitoring and Reporting:

Maintain effective and efficient record-keeping procedures including records of parent and student contact.

Complete appropriate reports for local, state, federal, and educational agencies.

Assist with District and schoolwide data analysis.

Ensure that student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.

Coordinate with the RAIL Academic Advisor to make sure that all courses and grades are placed on the student’s report card and transcript.

Ensure that each student enrolled in the Frisco RAIL has accurate, up-to-date records.

Stay current on all Frisco RAIL communications and attend online or face-to-face training and coaching sessions.

 

Professional Growth and Development:
Continue professional growth through self-directed, as well as defined professional development opportunities, which may include additional training, professional learning communities, outside research, and reading professional literature.

Keep informed of and comply with state, District, and school regulations and policies for teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings  or campus activities and serve on staff committees as required.

Additional Considerations:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Regular district wide travel to multiple work locations as assigned.  Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. Frequent and prolonged and irregular hours.  Long hours staring at a computer screen.
