Job Description

Defender Services is seeking UNARMED SECURITY GUARDS for healthcare facilities around COLUMBIA, SC.



Full Time Shifts: Monday through Friday 7AM to 3PM or 3PM to 11PM or 11PM to 7AM



Part Time Shifts: Saturday and Sunday 7AM to 7PM or 7PM to 7AM



Duties:




  • Conduct regular patrols of all assigned areas, including parking structures, and monitor security camera feeds

  • Screen visitors, monitor entrances and manage traffic flow

  • Respond to duress alarms and assist with evacuations during emergencies

  • De-escalate tense situations with visitors or agitated patients, intervene in altercations when necessary, and manage unruly behavior

  • Observe and report suspicious activity, security violations, and safety hazards with complete detailed incident reports

  • Assist with staff and patient escorts as assigned



Requirements:



Must Meet the State of South Carolina requirements for an unarmed private security officer:




  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver?s license with a clean driving record

  • Ability to pass extensive background checks, including criminal history check, employment, and education verification, and meet requirements for access to sensitive information.

  • Ability to pass a drug screening

  • Must be 18 years of age or older



Other Requirements:




  • Military, police, security or first responder prior service is strongly preferred

  • Work extended hours

  • Work alone

  • Work and perform under stress

  • Work in adverse weather

  • Stop, question, and detain individuals

  • Respond to emergencies with strenuous unplanned physical activity

  • Must be able to climb stairs

  • Sit or stand alone during the entire shift

  • Be able to bend, stand walk, squat, reach, push, pull and lift 20 pounds for your entire shift

  • Must have reliable transportation to the job site

  • Ability to function in emergencies and unusual environments.



The examinee shall demonstrate stability and capacity for the following:




  • Mental alertness and emotional stability

  • Acuity of senses; ability of expression to allow rapid, accurate communication by spoken, written, audible, visible, or tactile signals.

  • The use of corrective eyeglasses or contact lenses shall not interfere with an individual?s ability to effectively perform assigned security duties during normal or emergency operations.

  • No use of medications that while the individual is working, that would incapacitate, alter mental status, judgment or decrease physical or mental response times (e.g., anxiety relief via sedatives, narcotic pain medications, etc.).

  • Individuals with medical conditions which may impact the ability to perform the essential functions of the job shall provide medical evidence that the condition is controlled with proper medication and/or treatment and/or reasonable accommodations. The site physician may require the candidate to obtain a letter of clearance from his/her personal physician attesting that the candidate can perform the essential elements of the job.
