    Position: Elementary School Assistant Principal

    Contract: 12-Month

    Employment Status: Full-time, On-site

    Reports To: Principal


    Qualifications:

    • At least a Master's degree
    • Valid state of Alabama teaching certificate in the appropriate field of study
    • Educational administrator certificate
    • Minimum three years experience as a classroom teacher

    Job Goals:  Serve as the professional assistant leader of the school. To work, under the direction of the principal, with staff, students, and community to ensure a high-quality educational program. 

    Job Functions and Responsibilities:

    1. Assist in providing effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the instructional program.
    2. Assist in interpreting and implementing Individualized Education Plans, essential federal and state laws/regulations, local board policies, school safety plans, and assessments that influence instructional outcomes.
    3. Prepare and analyze student data (ex, Student Incident Reports (SIR, parental involvement, audits.) and assists with social-emotional learning, student behavior and discipline plans.
    4. Assist the principal in personnel functions including, but not limited to: annual employee evaluations, classroom observations/walkthroughs, staffing, planning professional development needs, and progressive discipline.
    5. Assist the principal in securing, maintaining, and managing material resources.
    6. Assist in developing and adherence to continuous improvement plans.
    7. Assist the principal in assuming responsibility for scheduling.
    8. Assist in ensuring that students receive appropriate placement and services.
    9. Plan and accomplish personal professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics.
    10. Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
    11. Assist in providing professional growth opportunities for staff.
    12. Assist in communicating and clarifying the school's mission to students, staff, and community.
    13. Assists in providing a safe, orderly environment that facilitates teaching and learning.
    14. Assists in providing a climate of high expectations for staff and students.
    15. Assists in other areas as assigned by principal.

    Primary Physical Demands:

    • See on a continuous basis  within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
    • Hear on a continuous basis  within less than a few feet away and more than a few feet away
    • Speak frequently and clearly
    • Transition from various positions: standing, sitting, walking, kneeling or crouching. On a rare occasion it may be necessary to move quickly, walk/run in a drill or emergency situation
    • Reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling objects up to 25 pounds with or without assistance
    • Agility to operate computer and other digital hardware
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers for word processing

    Typical Work Environment:

    • Academic and professional for all ages
    • Primarily indoors with varying temperatures
    • Noise level is generally moderate
    • Access to telecommunications
