- Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in proper working order.
- Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
- Deliver raw materials to manufacturing plant from distribution center as required.
- Load and unload trucks, or assist others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
- Drop and hook multiple times throughout the day, rotating completed product to distribution center.
- Operate forklift to assist in staging and loading outbound shipments as needed.
- Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered good and collect payment for services when required.
- Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and check that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
- Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
- Read bill of lading to determine assignment details.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles.
- Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
- Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones, to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
- Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
- Crank trailer landing gear up or down to safely secure vehicles.
- Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, or performing minor repairs.
- Remove debris from loaded trailers.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- CDL Driver's License
- Previous truck driving experience preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot causes of operating errors and to determine how to resolve said errors
- Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed
- Ability to read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish preferred
