Job Description
  • Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in proper working order.
  • Inventory and inspect goods to be moved to determine quantities and conditions.
  • Deliver raw materials to manufacturing plant from distribution center as required.
  • Load and unload trucks, or assist others with loading and unloading, operating any special loading-related equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary.
  • Drop and hook multiple times throughout the day, rotating completed product to distribution center.
  • Operate forklift to assist in staging and loading outbound shipments as needed.
  • Maintain logs of working hours or of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered good and collect payment for services when required.
  • Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and check that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.
  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
  • Read bill of lading to determine assignment details.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles.
  • Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.
  • Operate equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, and telephones, to exchange necessary information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.
  • Crank trailer landing gear up or down to safely secure vehicles.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid, or performing minor repairs.
  • Remove debris from loaded trailers.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • CDL Driver's License
  • Previous truck driving experience preferred
  • Ability to troubleshoot causes of operating errors and to determine how to resolve said errors
  • Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish preferred
