Job Description

This position reports to the V.P. of Distribution Mid-America Region. The 2nd Shift Operations Manager is responsible for daily operations and cost controls in Inbound and Outbound departments ensuring that both customer service and internal measurements are held to the highest standard. Direct reports include supervisors in the supporting departments.

Customer Service – Provide all customers served by this facility with quality products and superior customer service in a timely, accurate manner which is consistent with corporate goals and objectives. Limit the amount of errors and damages in departments reporting to you. Assist in developing plans to improve processes and reduce costs throughout the facility.   

Expense and Productivity – Monitor all facets of department activities to ensure that productivity and expense controls are consistent with budget goals and objectives. Prepare annual operating expense budget for departments. Maintain acceptable labor expense ratio by analyzing and identifying opportunities for process improvement resulting in cost or time savings. 

Human Resources – Maintain a non-union environment which fosters an atmosphere that encourages teamwork among employees and supervisors. Promote superior levels of achievement that ensures staff levels are maintained with minimal overtime and non productive time. Develop and maintain housekeeping standards that promote employee health and safety to reduce lost productivity. Continually cultivate a safety standard among management and employees.             

Asset Management – Determine best use of capital assets required to meet operational goals and objectives. Monitor proper use of equipment and utilization of manpower to achieve facility goals. Maintain acceptable accuracy levels and control inventory shrinkage. 

Compliance – Comply with all federal, state and local regulations. Meet the goals and objectives established through our corporate compliance process.

Other Duties

  1. Review key performance indicators and strategic initiatives to drive effectiveness, efficiency and financial performance in warehousing operations.    
  2. Assist in developing plans to improve processes and reduce costs.
  3. Establish and maintain good working relationships with other departments.
  4. Develop action plans to influence improvement throughout warehousing operations.   
  5. Analyze and identify opportunities for process improvement resulting in cost or time saved. 

Skills and Qualifications

  1. Post-secondary education is preferred. 
  2. 3-5 years of management experience.
  3. Articulate with good presentation and written communication skills.
  4. Proficiently use personal computer and Google applications. 
  5. Show ability to lead others in a fast-paced, high-quality work environment.
  6. Show commitment to the sense of urgency that drives our daily business.
  7. Knowledge and ability to drive continuous improvement.
