About the Department
The Project Director of the Academic Success Center (ASC) reports directly to the Dean of Academic Affairs and is responsible for the implementation and oversight of the ASC Grant. This role includes managing grant initiatives, supervising project staff, and ensuring compliance with project activities. The Director collaborates with various college departments to enhance student success through strategic planning, academic support services, and continuous assessment and evaluation. The primary aim is to foster a supportive academic environment that aligns with the college's mission and goals.
Position Duties
Essential Duties
1. Serve as the primary contact for the ASC Grant.
2. Implement, evaluate, and monitor grant activities.
3. Manage the data reporting system for the grant.
4. Represent the grant on all project-related matters.
5. Communicate reports to all stakeholders.
6. Monitor the progress of all project activities and objectives to ensure yearly goals are met.
7. Manage project budgets and financial resources.
8. Develop and implement a comprehensive financial literacy program for Halifax Community College students.
9. Prepare and process various records and reports, including strategic planning worksheets, semester assessment reports, performance appraisals, budget projections/reports, requisitions, travel petitions/reimbursements, program effectiveness evaluations, etc.
10. Prepare, submit, and report on external federal, state, and private grants.
11. Manage sponsored programs, including research, grant writing, pre/post award administration, training, compliance, budgeting, reporting, assessment, and evaluation.
Planning
12. Develop and implement strategies for the ASC grant.
13. Collaborate with Academic Division dean, program directors, and Student Affairs staff to design, implement, and institutionalize new practices and improvements according to the project schedule.
14. Work collaboratively with the Vice President of Academic/Student Affairs, Dean of Academic Affairs, Dean of Student Affairs to implement other strategies that intertwine with the grant.
15. Work under the leadership of the President/CEO and the Trustee Board to establish strategic goals, guide institutional planning, strengthen academic programs and student development, and improve overall institutional efficiency and effectiveness.
16. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the ASC project and the broader college community.
Organizing
17. Supervise and lead project activities for the grant.
18. Supervise three full-time Academic Advising Coaches, one full-time Academic Success Project Coordinator, and one part-time assessment and evaluation specialist.
19. Collaborate with various divisions, units, programs, and services.
20. Coordinate strategies to address the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Performance Measures for Student Success.
Directing
21. Provide administrative leadership for the college regarding the grant.
22. Provide staff development and training.
23. Encourage and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff.
24. Interact and communicate effectively with various groups and individuals, including immediate supervisor, co-workers, subordinates, other staff and faculty, students, and the general public.
Controlling
25. Closely monitor project activities and objectives to ensure yearly goals are met.
26. Monitor the progress of all project activities and objectives to ensure yearly goals are met.
27. Manage the data reporting system for the grant.
Public Relations
28. Serve on various committees as approved by the supervisor.
29. Represent the grant on all project-related matters.
Other
30. Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in higher education, grant management, and student success initiatives.
31. Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
32. Work under the leadership of the President/CEO and the Trustee Board to establish strategic goals, guide institutional planning, strengthen academic programs and student development, and improve overall institutional efficiency and effectiveness.
33. Uphold and support the mission of Halifax Community College by promoting student success and institutional excellence.
34. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position description.
35. Manage a small caseload, if needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree; Microsoft & Office Suite Experience.
- Experience in marketing, recruitment, enrollment, advising, and retention.
- Excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Handling Multiple Tasks in a Timely Manner/Highly Organized.
- Ability to work in teams and independently.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills.
- Master’s Degree
- Experience in Project Management and Program Development
- Minimum of 5 years on grant related experience.
- Experience in academic support services, first-year experiences, and evaluation.
