THE POSITION
The Account Clerk II is the journey level classification in this series. Assignments frequently overlap those given general clerical classifications; however, they are distinguished by the degree of mathematical, record keeping, bookkeeping and clerical accounting duties assigned. This position exists in various County departments and is subject to overtime, standby, holiday, shift, and callback assignments. Performs related duties as assigned. This is a temporary part-time/extra-help position expected to continue for approximately 5 months and may be extended if needed.

Position Duties
- Gather, assemble, tabulate, proof, extend, balance, summarize and post various data;
- Maintain journals and control records;
- Balance and bill accounts;
- Prepare and audit invoices, purchase orders and claims;
- Compile routine statistical and financial reports;
- As assigned, assist in payroll preparation;
- Act as a cashier, handling money, making change, providing receipts and tabulating totals daily; and
- Perform a limited amount of typing, answering phones and assisting the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Perform basic mathematical computations;
- Operate various office machines (i.e., computer, fax, copy, microfiche, ten key);
- Deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner;
- Follow oral and written instructions; and
- Type at a reasonable rate of speed.
- Current office practices and procedures;
- Principles and methods of financial and statistical clerical work; and
- Alphabetic and numeric filing procedures.

- Equivalent to one (1) year of full-time general clerical experience involving computations, financial or statistical record keeping or reporting.
- Three (3) months experience with collections spreadsheets and data entry; OR
- Three (3) months experience with strong communication skills and experience with collections phone calls; OR
- Three (3) months Experience with negotiating payment arrangements; OR
- Three (3) months experience with the computer database Chameleon.

EXAMINATION PROCESS
Most County recruitments consist of the steps detailed below and are governed by Merit Principles. The examination process ensures that all applicants are given the same opportunity to gain employment within Stanislaus County.
- Application Review and Screening. Applications are carefully screened based on information provided. Those who submit incomplete applications that lack relevant qualifications or do not submit all required documents will not be invited to move on.
- Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
- Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months, but may be extended up to eighteen months.
Note: The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, part-time and full-time vacancies throughout Stanislaus County Departments.
CLASSIFICATION INFORMATION
Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.

Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
