Job Description

The Entry-Level Accountant is an essential partner to the Museum’s daily operations and supports core accounting and reporting activities across earned revenue lines (admissions, membership, retail, and events), contributed revenue, and restricted funds. This role assists with maintaining operating budgets, performing timely reconciliations, and supporting the Museum’s financial systems and reporting tools, while helping ensure accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls. This position collaborates with and reports to the Deputy Director/CFO.

Position type: This position will be covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU.

Pay: The hiring salary range for the position is $55,700.00-$74,200.00 based on experience.

What You’ll Do

 

  •  Monthly accounting and reporting on the Museum’s external events business including timely expense allocations, and deferred revenue recognition. and quarterly incentive calculation.
  • Monthly reporting on membership programs and admissions activity.
  • Accounting and reporting on the Museum’s retail operation and completion of the quarterly incentive calculation
  • Monthly reporting and filing of the Museum’s sales and other tax filings.
  • Monthly reconciliation of critical systems including Raiser’s Edge to Business Central and the Dashboard to ATMS Reconciliations
  • Prepare and submit quarterly funding requests to the City of Denver and manage the accounting and reconciliation of SCFD funds.
  • Support the development of and maintenance of the Museum’s Operating Budget.
  • Critical partner for the Museum’s accounting for traveling exhibitions including reconciliation of expenses, fees and reporting.
  • Complete quarterly balance sheet reconciliations as assigned.
  • Critical partner in the Museum quarterly Learning and Engagement alignment meetings including reporting and necessary budget adjustments
  • Responsible for maintenance of the Accounting System including account setup, system routing, opening and closing periods and fiscal years.
  • Responsible for managing the Museum’s reporting system (Jet Reports) as well as rolling over monthly and year-end reports.
  • Museum internal resource for expense and budget inquiries by departments including processing reclass requests as needed.
  • Reviews and post journal entries as assigned.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Museum’s utilities reconciliation.
  • Assists with the year-end process of capitalization, disposal, and depreciation of fixed assets by compiling necessary backup and reports to support the asset entries.
  • Assists with the preparation of the Financial Audit, the 990-tax return, annual report, and Federal Program audit, if applicable
  • Train and serve a backup to others in the department to ensure essential tasks are completed timely.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
