Job Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly financial data and reports
  • Perform reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and subsidiary ledgers
  • Analyze accounts and investigate discrepancies; recommend and implement corrective actions
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Perform accounting tasks related to premiums, commissions, taxes (including premium tax and sales/use tax), and abandoned property
  • Coordinate and process 1099 reporting
  • Assist with annual audits and state examinations, including preparation of supporting documentation
  • Support payment processing and banking transactions
  • Assist with commission processing, including monthly and annual profit-sharing calculations
  • Identify transactions subject to sales and use tax and ensure proper reporting
  • Provide support on special projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Serve as backup for other accounting functions and assist in training junior staff

 

Requirements

  •  2+ years of experience in accounting, preferably within P&C insurance
  •  Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
  •  Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel
  •  Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  •  Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple deadlines
  •  Effective verbal and written communication skills
  •  Ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and resolve discrepancies
  •  Collaborative team player with a customer-service mindset

 

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Familiarity with insurance accounting, statutory reporting, or regulatory filings
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory examinations
  • AIAF designation (or progress toward designation) preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Continuous improvement mindset with focus on process efficiency
  • Public accounting experience a plus but not a requirement
