Job Description
The Mid-Level Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a construction company by maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with job cost accounting, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies. This role works closely with project managers, senior accountants, and finance leadership to track project costs, analyze financial performance, and support budgeting and forecasting processes.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & General Accounting
• Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Generate financial statements and management reports.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
Job Cost Accounting
• Track and allocate project costs including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
• Monitor job cost budgets and analyze cost variances.
• Assist project managers with financial tracking and reporting for active projects.
• Review project-related expenses to ensure accurate coding and classification.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Support
• Review vendor invoices and subcontractor payments for accuracy and proper approvals.
• Assist with client billing, including progress billing and retainage tracking.
• Support collections and reconciliation of outstanding balances.
Budgeting & Forecasting
• Assist in preparing annual budgets and project financial forecasts.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends, cost overruns, and opportunities for cost control.
• Support financial planning for new and ongoing construction projects.
Compliance & Audits
• Maintain proper documentation for financial transactions and job costs.
• Assist with internal and external audits.
• Ensure compliance with tax regulations and contract requirements.
Process Improvement
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and internal controls.
• Support implementation and optimization of construction accounting software or ERP systems.

Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or project-based industry.
• Experience with job cost accounting and construction billing methods (e.g., progress billing, retainage) preferred.
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, financial analysis, formulas).
• Familiarity with construction accounting systems is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with project managers and operations teams.
