Job Description

The Admissions Representative at BCMC performs assigned duties in the Business Office/ER under the direction of the Business Office Supervisor. This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position. Reliable transportation is required. Hours are 7a-7p.

Essential Functions:

  • Processes registrations for all types of patients.
  • Processes admissions for ER, Inpatients, & Observations, as well as Outpatient services (Xray, Lab, & Ref. Labs), as needed.
  • Ensures Patient Profiles/Accts have correct and updated information.
  • Ensures Proper Forms have been signed by patient.
  • Ensures all Ins. Cards & Patient ID's have been scanned into acct.
  • Verifies Insurances.
  • Checks for Medical Necessity.
  • Responsible for Observation Logbook.
  • Responsible for ER Logbook.
  • Copies charts and distributes to appropriate departments.
  • Communicates with Dr.'s Offices, Hospitals, Clinics, Ambulance & Helicopter services.
  • Communicates with other Departments within the Hospital.
  • Collects co-pays & deductibles.
  • Responsible for ER Petty Cash and submitting payments to the Business Office.
  • Processes necessary reports and follow up with corrections as needed.
  • Ensures office supplies are adequately stocked.
  • Answers Switchboard, directs calls to appropriate destination.
  • Processes mail, both outgoing & incoming.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment: This job operates in a healthcare setting.  This role also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear in order to effectively communicate with patients and coworkers.  This position is mostly sedentary, but does require some walking.

Expected Hours of Work: This is for the 7a-7p shift in a healthcare facility which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Additional hours may be required periodically based on staffing needs, workload demands, or operational requirements. The ER is never closed.  Staff must not leave work until relief has arrived.  Work during inclement weather will be required.  

Required Education and Experience:  Education Equivalent to a High School Diploma. Must be proficient at counting and handling money, general computer and office machines knowledge, able to learn quickly and follow instructions.  Must be a self-starter.
