Job Description

Position Title: Advertising Assistant

Division: Associated Students

Department: 22 West Media - Marketing

Reports To: Student Media Manager

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Payroll Classification: Part-Time, Student Assistant – Level B

HR Approved Date: June 2026

GENERAL STATEMENT

The Advertising Assistant responsibility is to maintain a continuous flow of advertising revenue that will minimize or eliminate the need for ASI allotment of student fees to 22 West Media. Identifies, develops, and serves as primary point of representation to potential and existing advertising clientele throughout the academic year. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Responsible for selling ads for 22 West Media and performs cold calling to get the attention of possible clients. 
  1. Visit local Long Beach businesses to inquire about advertising sales. Builds relationships with clients. 
  1. Develops strategies to market 22 West Media to potential advertisers on a local, regional, and national basis. Generates results-focused marketing concepts to a diverse client base. 
  1. Oversees and coordinates ad production on behalf of clients and works with the Student Managing Editor for review and placement of ads in 22 West Magazine a timely basis. 
  1. Responds to inquiries and research and resolves problems related to transactions handled by 22 West Media. 
  1. Develops or assists with the implementation of sales procedures consistent with those ASI accounts payable established procedures to ensure efficient operation. 
  1. Prepares and completes Ad Agreements and credit reports with clients on a timely basis. Assists in the preparation of invoices for clients and reclaiming outstanding balances. 
  1. Interacts and serves as liaison with advertising clients; issues adjustments to clients, and plans and carries out sales development and public relations activities, as appropriate. 
  1. Represents the organization at various community and/or business meetings; promotes existing and new programs and/or policies. 
  1. Trains and delegates work to advertising interns and reports to management with their progress. 
  1. Attend the biweekly staff meetings and report on advertising activities. 
  1. Other duties as assigned, reasonably within the scope of the job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Currently enrolled at CSULB, preferably in Business Administration, and/or Marketing major. One year of related clerical/office experience preferred. Previous volunteer experience with 22 West Media preferred. Must be a current and active CSULB student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units.

Knowledge and Abilities

General office work aptitude, understanding filing systems, email, internet, fax, photocopier, and know the campus infrastructure. The ability to travel around Long Beach is required. 

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Schedule

This position is an annual, year-round position that works through the Winter & Summer academic breaks. The work schedule generally follows standard business hours. Scheduled hours may fluctuate depending on departmental needs. Occasional evening and weekend support is required.
