Job Description

Camp J is seeking energetic, dependable, and compassionate After Care Counselors to help create a safe, fun, and welcoming environment for our students after the school day ends. We are committed to building a team that values inclusion, teamwork, and child development. We especially welcome applicants with experience supporting children with diverse learning, behavioral, developmental, or physical needs. What You'll Do: 
  • Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of students during after-school hours.
  • Lead engaging games, crafts, enrichment activities, and outdoor play.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Assist students with homework and academic support as needed.
  • Communicate professionally with parents regarding daily updates and concerns.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow counselors and program leadership to provide a high-quality after-school experience.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe activity space while following all licensing and safety requirements.

Qualifications: 
  • Experience working with children in a school, camp, childcare, recreation, or after-school setting preferred.
  • DCF 40-Hour Introductory Child Care Training is required (or must be completed prior to employment, as applicable).
  • Experience supporting children with diverse learning, behavioral, developmental, or physical needs is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Positive attitude, patience, reliability, and professionalism.
  • Ability to lead engaging activities and build positive relationships with children.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification are a plus.
  • Coursework in Education, Child Development, Recreation, Psychology, or a related field is a plus.

Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to bend, kneel, squat, sit, stand, and walk throughout campus.
  • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to set up and break down activity spaces, including moving tables, chairs, and equipment.
