Job Description
WHAT WE’RE DOING
Lockheed Martin is seeking an experienced Level 3 AI Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of AI‑driven automation solutions. The role focuses on leveraging AI agents, large language models (LLMs), and advanced AI toolchains to streamline and automate business processes such as computer‑vision‑based OCR, image recognition, automated data entry, data extraction, and contextual understanding of textual communications (e.g., emails).
The engineer will work primarily with Python and SQL, while also evaluating and integrating additional technologies as needed, always using Lockheed Martin‑approved AI platforms and security‑compliant tools.
THE WORK
AI/ML Solution Architecture
• Design end‑to‑end AI pipelines that incorporate agents, LLMs, and domain‑specific models.
• Define system architecture, data flow, and integration points with existing enterprise services.
Computer Vision & OCR
• Develop and fine‑tune OCR pipelines for high‑accuracy text extraction from scanned documents, emails, forms, and images.
Natural Language Understanding
• Implement LLM‑based parsers to extract intent, entities, and actionable items from emails, tickets, and unstructured text.
• Create context‑aware summarization and routing engines to automate workflow decisions.
Automation & Process Orchestration
• Combine AI components into reusable “agents” that can autonomously retrieve data, perform transformations, and update downstream systems.
Data Engineering & Integration
• Write performant Python scripts and SQL queries for data ingestion, cleansing, and storage in ERP as well as data warehouse.
• Ensure data lineage, versioning, and compliance with LM security policies utilizing GitLab.
Tooling & Platform Governance
• Work exclusively with Lockheed Martin‑approved AI platforms (e.g., LM AI Factory).
• Participate in security reviews, model‑risk assessments, and compliance documentation.
Collaboration & Mentorship
• Partner with product owners, system engineers, and domain experts to translate business needs into AI solutions.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and promote best practices for reproducibility and testing.
Continuous Innovation
• Evaluate emerging AI research (foundation models, prompting techniques, multimodal AI) for potential application within LM’s mission‑critical environments.
• Prototype proof‑of‑concepts and iterate based on stakeholder feedback.
Please Note: While this is a hybrid telework role, candidates should be local to one of the following locations to be able to work onsite and be considered for this role. Relocation assistance is not provided.
• Milwaukee, WI
• Orlando, FL
• Marietta, GA
• Stratford, CT
• Fort Worth, TX
A Level 3 employee is mid-career and typically has 3+ years of related professional experience.
