Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you will be directly responsible for providing vital nursing services to our students and consumers who are Blind, Deaf, or DeafBlind.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Unencumbered, Alabama Registered Nurse license

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing 

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

  • Must meet suitability/background requirements for employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • School nurse experience preferred.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES  

Direct Patient Care & Clinical Services

  • Deliver Professional Nursing Care: Provide high-quality direct nursing care, first aid, and emergency medical services tailored to the unique and diverse needs of students and clients in a positive, supportive manner.

  • Medical Accompaniment & Transport: Accompany and/or transport students and clients to medical appointments, clinics, and hospitals as required.

  • Clinic Support: Assist with daily clinic operations, including scheduling, referrals, follow-ups, and conducting physical examinations for EPSDT screenings.

  • Care Delegation: Delegate nursing interventions in strict accordance with established guidelines, policies, and professional standards.

     

     

    Administration, Compliance, & Documentation

  • Regulatory Compliance: Function seamlessly within the framework of the Alabama Nursing Practice Act. Adhere to all federal, state, and internal administrative guidelines, policies, and mandates impacting school health services.

  • Meticulous Record-Keeping: Maintain highly accurate clinical data, daily logs, and individual student/client medical records, demonstrating strong attention to detail and diligence.

  • Technology Utilization: Demonstrate computer literacy and competency in utilizing existing healthcare and administrative technology.

     

     

    Coordination, Communication, & Collaboration

  • Multidisciplinary Communication: Facilitate clear, effective communication with parents, physicians, community agencies, and internal staff to comprehensively meet student medical needs.

  • Institutional Alignment: Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams as requested, and serve on various committees appointed by supervisor.

     

     

    Health Education & Staff Development

  • In-Service Training: Plan, implement, and assist with health-related In-Service Education programs for AIDB staff, students, and clients across all campuses.

  • Program Development: Assist in preparing agendas, medical protocols, and public-facing health education programs for the community and healthcare professionals.

     

     

    Operational Flexibility & Professional Development

     

  • Scheduling Flexibility: Maintain availability for shifting schedules, campus rotations, and designated "ON-CALL" shifts across all AIDB campuses as outlined by the supervisor.

  • Sign Language Proficiency: Attain a sign language proficiency level of Survival Plus via the AIDB evaluation system within the first thirty-six (36) months of employment.

  • Certifications: Obtain and maintain Basic Cardiac Life Support Instructor Certification and Drug Testing Collector Certification 

  • General Duties: Perform other duties as assigned to support the health and wellness of the school community.

Salary: 

 

187-day position
