ARNP or PA - Pat time for ER/Hospitalist

This role includes a regularly scheduled 24-hour Emergency Department and Hospitalist shift every Monday, with the opportunity to pick up additional shifts and hours as desired.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Elicit a medical history and perform a physical examination with completed documentation within the established time requirements.
- Assess, diagnosis and treat medical or surgical problems and document the findings within the established time requirements.
- Perform or assist in performance of laboratory and related studies as appropriate for the practice setting.
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, the suturing and care of wounds, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation and other clinical procedures.
- Perform office surgical procedures including skin biopsy, mole or wart removal, toenail removal, arthrocentesis, incision and drainage of abscesses when appropriate.
- Prenatal and postnatal care, emergency delivery if needed.
- Care of orthopedic problems including, but not limited to, strains, dislocation and simple fractures.
- Perform and screen the results of special medical exams including, but not limited to, electrocardiogram or holter monitoring, radiography, audiometric and vision screening, tonometry and pulmonary function screening tests.
- Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health on matters such as diets, diseases, therapy and normal growth and development.
- When deemed appropriate by Medical Staff and Hospital Administration, may independently admit patients, perform medical histories and physical exams, make patient rounds, record patient progress notes and other appropriate medical records, in consultation with collaborating physician.
- Refer patient to appropriate specialty and subspecialty providers as indicated by the patient’s problems.
- Implement immediate evaluation, treatment and institution of procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to emergency medical problems.
- Order lab test, x-ray procedures independently. Refer to/order physical, speech and occupational therapy.
- Communicate, coordinate and cooperate with the nursing and administrative staffs on patient issues concerning referral, appropriate patient transfer, Medicare/Medicaid and other separate programs requiring specific documentation.
- Prescribe, supply and administer drugs and medical devices in all settings including, but not limited to, hospitals, healthcare facilities, healthcare institutions, clinics and outpatient settings.
- Conform to delineated privileges as granted by the medical staff credentialing process.
- Complete all documentation and medical records requirements within the prescribed time limits set by the hospital and/or medical staff bylaws, rules, and regulations.
- Conduct and complete hospital sponsored employee physical examinations.
- Whenever admitting a patient to ACMH the PA will notify the provider of the admission.
- Serve as a mandatory reporter.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uses discretion in patient interactions.
Requirements
- Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Current ACLS and PALS certification required.
- ATLS certification required for Emergency Department practice or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- Previous experience in acute care, emergency medicine, hospitalist, or primary care setting preferred.
- Critical Access Hospital experience desirable.
