Title:  Assembly Technician – Armored Vehicles                 Reports To:  Shop Floor Supervisor
Department: Assembly                                                                 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
 
Job Summary:
Assemble and disassemble weldments, OEM, and glass components into vehicle body in white (BIW).
 
Essential Functions:
  • Installation of heavy components using crane and lifting fixtures. 
  • Install operation assigned material and components into BIW using a mix of basic mechanical tools and fixtures by bolting, installing screws, and/or riveting parts together.
  • Reads and interprets work instructions and blueprint to complete assigned operations.
  • Works with team members to assemble ARV’s Armored BIW Vehicles.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment, tooling, and workspace.
  • Discusses process/part issues with supervisor and work to resolve problems.
  • Follows all company safety requirements and protocells while performing assembly operations.
  • Works with adhesives and coatings as part of the assembly process.
  • Works in ERP/MRP systems.
  • Fabricates large steel components to obtain fitment.
  • Meticulously strips vehicle fenders, hood and additional interior pieces, carefully indexing and storing parts to prevent damage.
  • Communicates regularly with and supports the materials team as needed.
  • Understands OEM components and how they are installed.
  • Develops cross-functional skill to understand and execute each stage of operation.
  • All additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (as demonstrated through experience, training and/or testing)
  • Proven ability to perform consistent, high-volume assembly tasks straight from drawings, specifications and standardized written or verbal work instructions.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, manuals, 3D models, specifications sketches, job orders, planning documents and engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools, power tools, torque wrenches, magnetic drills, grinders, etc.
  • Ability to adapt positively to changes and rework during assembly tasks.
 
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required. Higher Education Degree or Technical School Certificate is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in heavy military assembly and or vehicle assembly.
  • Experience with assembly on Commercial Vehicle platforms.
 
Background Prerequisites:
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing.  Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain suitability requirements for access to classified information.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications such as ASEC Mechanic License, CDL, fork truck operation, crane operation preferred.
  • Military vehicle assembly or military vehicle modification experience.
  • Fork Truck, Crane, and basic machine shop equipment skill with certifications.
  • Welding of steel and aluminum experience with certification.
  • Material surface preparation and Spray Painting experience.
