Student Worker – Alumni & Development Office
Department: Alumni & Development
Supervisor: Director of Alumni & Development (or designated staff member)
Hours: 10–20 hours per week (based on student availability)
Position Summary
The Alumni & Development Student Worker provides administrative, event, and customer service support to the Alumni & Development Office. This position plays an important role in helping strengthen relationships with alumni, donors, and friends of Spartanburg Methodist College while supporting fundraising initiatives and special events.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Greet alumni, donors, and campus visitors in a professional and welcoming manner.
- Answer phones, take messages, and assist with general office correspondence.
- Assist with data entry, filing, copying, scanning, and other administrative projects.
- Prepare mailings, donor acknowledgments, event invitations, and informational packets.
- Organize office supplies and maintain an orderly work environment.
- Assist with alumni and donor database updates.
- Help prepare materials for fundraising campaigns and special events.
- Assist with event preparation, including packing supplies, decorating, registration, setup, and cleanup.
- Welcome guests and provide event support during alumni, donor, and campus events.
- Deliver materials across campus as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Alumni & Development Office.
Qualifications
- Current Spartanburg Methodist College student in good academic standing.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Dependable, organized, and able to maintain confidentiality.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn new software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for event setup and office projects.
Preferred Skills
- Customer service experience.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Interest in event planning, communications, marketing, or nonprofit fundraising.

About the College: Founded in 1911, Spartanburg Methodist College is a private residential liberal arts institution serving a diverse student population within the United Methodist Connection. Since its founding as the first co-op school in the nation, SMC has remained dedicated to its mission to connect education and employment. After over 100 years as an Associate Degree granting institution, the college launched its first bachelor’s degree in 2019.
