SUMMARY: Responsible for coordinating, supervising, and developing the production, yard, and trucking operations and employees at Cedar Rapids Block Division location. Managing the related operating,
personnel, and equipment costs in accordance with budgeted guidelines. Works cooperatively with the Location Manager and others to achieve business goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Promotes a culture of Safety.
- Oversees the scheduling and dispatching functions for trucking activities.
- Assures that truck maintenance and repairs are completed on a timely basis and that overall costs for trucking operations are controlled. Assist in the purchasing of trucks and related equipment.
- Partners with the Production Manager for production scheduling in accordance with inventory and customer requirements.
- Purchases materials and supplies needed, and controls related costs.
- Maintains and controls required inventory of block and related materials.
- Conducts inside sales as needed and develops customer prospect lists and pursues sales/marketing activities to obtain new customers and to increase the level of business from existing customer accounts.
- Oversees and assures yard equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and safety.
- Assures that orders, quotes, and other job data are loaded promptly and accurately into the computer so that this information is available as needed for reference.
- Oversees and maintains consistent quality control of manufactured products.
- Provides management assistance for union/personnel discrepancies.
- Participates in safety meetings with the Compliance Manager.
- Works closely with the Location Manager and others to achieve desirable business goals.
- Participates in business decisions.

- Fiduciary Duty - Responsible for all financial obligations including but not limited to: A/R and those collections, annual sales forecast for budget, preparation for annual capital expenditure list for ownership, study P&L to ascertain improvements to the bottom line.
- Responsibility to Ownership - Carry out and enforce the policies from ownership and the corporate staff. Effectively communicate with ownership anything that may deviate from any policy or procedure. Operate the facility in a diligent and responsible manner to ensure the profitability of the location.
- Facility and Resource Management – Provide a physical facility that is presentable to the public and our customers. Provide safe structure and grounds for the location team along with proper equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Education, experience, and skills:
- Requires a high school education and some post high school business classes with several years of experience in a distribution business environment.
- Must exhibit a high level of understanding concerning block standards, equipment, and related trucking operations.
- Must have effective employee supervision and development skills including good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work under pressure with tight schedules and stressful situations.
- Must be well organized and have good math and basic financial management abilities.
- Must be a good listener and problem solver, able to make and carry out decisions.
Physical, mental, and environmental requirements: This is a high energy and mentally demanding position. Daily problem solving is needed using engineering concepts and specifications and interpersonal
skills. Good vision and hearing are required to communicate with a variety of employees, suppliers, and other management staff. Must be able to distinguish colors, size and other elements concerning the
Company’s products and materials. Some occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds may be required along with regular standing, walking, climbing, reaching, pulling, pushing, and grasping of objects.
Although most work is performed inside of an office and production plant, some outside work activities are also required which are subject to seasonal Midwest weather conditions (summer heat and winter cold)
dirt, dust, oils, and equipment noise. Some travel may occur requiring a valid operator’s license and good driving record. Position also requires high levels of personal integrity and initiative.
