Overview
The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of the hotel's physical assets, including building systems, facilities, and equipment. Working closely with the Chief Engineer, this position will assist in managing the engineering department and supporting hotel operations to ensure a safe, well-maintained, and guest-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision & Leadership:
- Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing the daily operations of the engineering department.
- Supervise, train, and manage engineering staff, ensuring they are effectively carrying out their tasks.
- Maintain a high level of staff motivation, training, and performance by providing leadership and direction.
- Facility Maintenance:
- Conduct regular inspections of the hotel?s physical plant, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, to ensure optimal performance.
- Ensure all preventive maintenance tasks are scheduled and completed in a timely manner.
- Oversee the repair and maintenance of building systems and equipment, including guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house operations.
- Address emergency maintenance requests promptly and efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption to guest services.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all engineering operations comply with local codes, safety regulations, and health standards.
- Participate in emergency response and crisis management procedures when needed.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols for the engineering team to ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in the preparation for safety audits and inspections.
- Budget & Inventory Management:
- Assist in managing the department's budget by controlling costs, reducing waste, and optimizing energy efficiency.
- Maintain an up-to-date inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies required for daily operations and emergency needs.
- Participate in the purchasing of equipment, materials, and supplies, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
- Energy Management:
- Work towards reducing energy consumption and improving energy efficiency across the hotel.
- Implement energy-saving initiatives and sustainability practices in line with the hotel's green and eco-friendly policies.
- Guest Experience:
- Ensure minimal disruptions to the guest experience due to maintenance activities.
- Provide a high level of customer service when handling engineering-related guest requests or concerns.
- Collaborate with other departments to meet guest needs and ensure an exceptional hotel experience.
- Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance work, repairs, and completed tasks.
- Prepare reports for the Chief Engineer regarding ongoing projects, maintenance issues, and staffing requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and assist in ensuring the hotel is prepared for audits.
