    Education/Certification:

    Required:

    • High School Graduate or GED for application.
    • CDL with passenger, air brake, S endorsements and TEA School Bus Driver's Certification. Endorsements And certification must be obtained within 12 months of employment

    Preferred:

    • National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course
    • First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen courses completed

    Experience

    Required:

    • Three years any type of transportation experience.
    • A minimum of sixty college credits may be substituted for two years of transportation experience.

    Preferred:

    • Two years supervisory experience.

    • Communicates effectively in both written and oral form and acts as liaison between Transportation and other supervisors, employees, school officials and parents.
    • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
    • Posses strong leadership capabilities and have a positive mental attitude.

    • Ability to accurately interpret, follows and apply departmental policies and procedures consistently.

    • Ability to apply proper decision-making techniques and ensure total fairness across the board.

    Function

    Responsible for the prompt and efficient dispatching of buses, development of routes, supervision of operations staff and performance of general and necessary duties to ensure the proper operation of the regular or special needs operations center for the Office of Transportation.

     

    Reports To:

     Operations Supervisor for Transportation

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Reports directly to the Operations Supervisor and the Administrative Officer for Transportation.
    • Maintains communication with the department of regular/special education, as appropriate.
    • Responsible for the timely departure of buses and the prompt arrival of buses at the destination as per instructions and/or route schedules.
    • Responsible for the installation of safety equipment such as safety vests, seat belts, etc.
    • Responsible for the development and adjustment of all routes, late runs, field trips, tutorial routes and shuttles.
    • Responsible for assigning route writing and other related work required by the Operations Supervisor and Administrative Officer.
    • Responsible for all additions, deletions and changes to the routes and field trips.
    • Dispatches when necessary.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Operations Supervisor, Director and Administrative Officer.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Responsible for the assignment of drivers, student attendants, monitors and equipment as needed.
    • Responsible for the recommendation of transfers, retention and dismissal of drivers and attendant.
    • Responsible for supervising operations specialists.
    • Ability to delegate responsibilities and manage personnel and resources to achieve a desired objective.
    • Responsible for semi-annual and annual evaluation of personnel.
    • Responsible for receiving calls and able to act on questions and/or complaints regarding routes, drivers or other personnel.
