Assistant Principal


Requirements


A Kentucky professional certificate for school administration and supervision.


 


Position Summary and Goal


To assist the Principal with duties, thus providing optimum time for the Principal’s foremost responsibility of direct supervision of the instructional program of the school.

Performance Responsibilities



  • Assists the Principal in facilitating the development, articulation and implementation of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.

  • Assists the Principal with nurturing and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.

  • Assists the Principal with student discipline and enforces school policies as necessary, according to the due process rights of students.

  • Assists in planning, organizing and supervising all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.

  • Takes all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Supervises students in and out of classroom activities during the working day.

  • Assists the principal in overseeing the maintenance of buildings and grounds.

  • Assists the Principal in the evaluation of designated employees in accordance with the Certified/Classified Evaluation Plan, and provides necessary and appropriate support to staff.

  • Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law.

  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of students.

  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.

  • Provides for his/her own professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulation.

  • Attends and participates in required meetings and serves on assigned committees.

  • Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.

  • Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.

  • Adheres to the requirements of the District and school employee handbook, Glasgow Board of Education Policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Performs any other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and covered by local board policy or law.
