JOB DESCRIPTION
ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS:
1 Master’s Degree from an accredited institution.
2 Certification in Educational Leadership, Administration or Administration and Supervision.
3 3 years or more successful experience as an Assistant Principal.
4 8 or more years successful teaching in a Title I school.
PREFERENCE: Pursuant to Policy 4120.11, veterans’ preference in employment, reemployment, promotion,
and retention shall be given to an eligible veteran, as long as the veteran meets the minimum eligibility
requirements and has the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the particular position.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and policies governing education. Knowledge
of curriculum and instructional programs and practices for appropriate level. Knowledge of
budgetary and supervisory responsibilities. Knowledge of athletics / scheduling and supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing. Ability to work with people in a positive,
effective manner. Ability to use effective public speaking skills, interaction skills and problem-
solving skills. Ability to analyze and use data. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage time
effectively.

SUPERVISES:
Instructional, Support and Service Personnel as assigned by the Principal
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Leadership / Development
1. Assist with the development, implementation and assessment of the instructional program at
the assigned school.
2. Use current research, performance data and feedback from students, teachers, parents and
community to make decisions related to improvement of instruction and student performance.
3. Assist with the school improvement process and the implementation of the School Improvement
Plan.
4. Assist in coordinating the school’s accreditation programs.
5. Promote high student achievement.
6. Assist in the development of the master schedule and assign teachers according to identified
needs.
7. Support the horizontal and vertical articulation of curriculum within the school as well as between

8. Develop a school curriculum guide to be utilized by students for class registration.

10. Monitor Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Programs and ascertain that all state and federal
guidelines and statutes are followed.
11. Oversee and assist in the administration of all testing programs including Mainstream, ESE and ESOL.
Personnel Action Services
12. Assist with the interview and selection of qualified personnel to be recommended for employment.
13. Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations
for appropriate action as directed.
14. Conduct needs assessment to determine an appropriate program for professional growth.
15. Assist in the selection and assignment of lead teachers for the induction of beginning teachers and
monitor progress.
16. Monitor substitute teacher selection and assignment.
17. Assist with developing personnel assignments and duty rosters.
18. Be aware of and supportive of employee negotiated contracts.
19. Assist with the selection of school personnel to special projects for the enhancement of the school.
School Operations / Delivery Systems
20. Access, analyze, interpret and use data in decision-making.
21. Assist with the management of all operations, activities and functions which occur at the assigned
school.
22. Assist in the development of positive school-community relations.
23. Prepare and manage the school textbook and instructional resource budget.
24. Coordinate facility and support service requirements.
25. Prepare and verify FTE / FEFP reports.
26. Maintain property inventory records and ensure the security of school property.
27. Coordinate the school technology plan.
28. Assist with the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan.
29. Use effective interpersonal communication skills.
Student Support Services
30. Develop guidelines for proper student conduct and implement disciplinary procedures and policies
that ensure a safe and orderly environment.
31. Assist in developing and implementing procedures to be used in the event of school crises and / or
civil disobedience and provide leadership in the event of such happenings.
32. Assist in the supervision of all extracurricular programs at the assigned school.
33. Maintain high visibility and accessibility on the school campus.
34. Monitor school attendance.
35. Monitor all guidance functions and practices.
36. Assist the coaches and county-wide athletic director in developing and maintaining a sound athletic
program.
37. Coordinate the schedule for all extracurricular activities.

38. Develop, monitor and participate in an in-service program which meets the needs for professional
growth, and complete all assigned professional growth and development tasks as assigned and
assist the principal accordingly.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force
frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan.
Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established for the District.
Extended hours beyond the regular school day may be frequently required.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on
evaluation of personnel.
