Description

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Associate Dean of Students provides vision, leadership, and daily administration for the University’s Dean of Students Office, serving all undergraduate and graduate students at Hofstra University. This role serves as a member of the Dean of Students leadership team and plays a critical role in advancing student success, supporting student well-being, fostering inclusive excellence, and enhancing the overall student experience.

The Associate Dean provides leadership for student support initiatives, policy development, assessment efforts, student organization advising, and campus-wide collaborations. The position works closely with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and community partners to address student concerns, strengthen support systems, and contribute to a welcoming and engaged campus community. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, cultural humility, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with students, campus partners, and community stakeholders while supporting a diverse, inclusive, and engaged campus community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as the divisional lead for policy development, implementation, review, and assessment.
  • Co-leads efforts related to the utilization and implementation of the Student Life Cycle framework across the division.
  • Collaborates with departments throughout the Division of Student Enrollment, Engagement, and Success, colleagues across the University, and community partners to advance student success and support institutional priorities.
  • Serves on divisional and University committees and perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Provides consultation to campus partners regarding student well-being concerns, complex student situations, and student support strategies.
  • Conducts follow-up meetings with commuter students following alcohol- or drug-related hospital transports.
  • Oversees the Hofstra Pride Pantry, including supervision of student staff, assessment efforts, and initiatives addressing food insecurity and students’ basic needs.
  • Supports the Dean of Students in the management of students of concern through the CARES Team and related intervention processes
  • Leads the Religious Exemption Request from Immunization Review Committee.
  • Serves as the University’s liaison to Hofstra Interfaith Chaplains and maintain collaborative relationships with religious and spiritual leaders across campus and within the local community.
  • Assists with the management of campus prayer and reflection spaces, ensuring they remain welcoming, accessible, and responsive to the needs of students.
  • Provides guidance and consultation regarding religious accommodations and support students navigating concerns related to religious observance, spiritual practice, identity, and belonging.
  • Serves as the primary advisor to the University’s faith-based student organizations and provide guidance and consultation to student organizations engaged in civic engagement, advocacy, identity-based programming, social issues, and community engagement.
  • Advises student leaders regarding organizational development, event planning, policy interpretation, risk management, conflict resolution, and leadership development.
  • Leads and support campus initiatives that promote interfaith engagement, religious literacy, constructive dialogue, and respectful engagement across differing perspectives and experiences.
  • Provides consultative support when local, national, or international events impact student communities and student organizations.
  • Organizes assessment initiatives within the Dean of Students Office and contribute to divisional assessment efforts, utilizing data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Develops departmental strategic initiatives and assess programs and services to ensure effectiveness and alignment with divisional and institutional priorities.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, education, law, public administration, or a closely related field
  • Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in higher education or a related setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse student populations in higher education.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster student engagement, belonging, and inclusive campus communities
  • Experience collaborating with campus and community partners to support student success.
  • Experience with student support services, case management, or crisis response.
  • Experience supervising professional staff and managing budgets.
  • Experience with Maxient, Navigate, Ellucian Banner, or similar student success and case management platforms preferred
