About The Role
At NOCD, we know that taking care of our people is just as important as taking care of our members. That's why we're looking for a Benefits & Leave Specialist who is passionate about creating a positive employee experience and helping team members navigate some of life's most important moments.
In this role, you'll be the go-to partner for benefits administration and leave coordination, helping employees understand their options, guiding them through the leave process, and ensuring everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. You'll collaborate closely with our benefits broker, and our third-party leave administrator, to deliver a seamless and supportive experience from enrollment through return to work.
If you enjoy solving problems, building relationships, improving processes, and making a meaningful impact on employees every day, we'd love to meet you.
What You'll Do
Benefits Administration
- Help administer NOCD's employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, HSA/FSA, and voluntary benefits.
- Be a trusted People Operations partner for employees with questions about benefits enrollment, eligibility, and life events.
- Partner with our benefits broker and payroll, to support benefit administration, Open Enrollment strategy, and employee education.
- Connect employees with our benefits advisor for detailed questions about coverage, claims, providers, and plan benefits.
- Process benefit enrollments, qualifying life events, and employee status changes while maintaining accurate HRIS records.
- Work closely with Payroll and benefit vendors to ensure employees receive the benefits they're eligible for.
- Help maintain employee communications, resources, compliance, and documentation that make benefits easy to understand.
- Look for opportunities to improve processes and create automation for a growing population.
Leave Administration
- Manage the employee leave experience from start to finish with our third-party leave administrator, including FMLA, non-FMLA medical leaves, ADA accommodations, paid family and medical leave, workers' compensation, and applicable state leave programs.
- Partner with our administrator to coordinate leave and accommodation cases and provide a smooth experience for employees and leaders.
- Serve as the primary internal contact throughout the leave/accommodation process, ensuring employees feel informed and supported.
- Coordinate return-to-work processes, including reviewing fitness-for-duty certifications and helping employees transition back to work successfully for all leaves.
- Maintain accurate leave records and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local leave laws.
- Continuously identify ways to improve leave processes and enhance the employee experience.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in benefits and/or leave and accommodation administration.
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, PWFA, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, and applicable federal and state leave laws.
- Experience working with HRIS platforms and benefits administration systems.
- Experience in benefits billing reconciliation.
- Exceptional organization and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and with a people-first mindset.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
- A collaborative approach in a fast paced environment and a passion for helping others.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, CEBS, or a similar certification.
- Experience supporting a remote, multi-state workforce.
- Experience with Google Suite, Slack, and Lattice.
- Experience partnering with benefits brokers and/or third-party leave administrators.
- Experience in healthcare or behavioral health.
