Job Description

We are seeking a responsible and reliable School Bus Driver to join our community. The primary mission is to provide safe, professional, and punctual transportation for students on daily routes, field trips, and school events. The successful candidate will maintain a calm, authoritative presence and demonstrate a deep commitment to student safety and NYS transport regulations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Daily Route Operations:
    •  AM Route: 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 a.m.
    • PM Route: 3:30 p.m. or 4:20 p.m.
    • Late Bus: 6:15 p.m. (as assigned)
  • Field Trips & Extra Work: 
    • Provide transportation for daytime field trips, athletic events, and school excursions.
    • Available for occasional evening or weekend trips as needed.
    • Maintain flexibility for "wait time" during off-site events.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough Pre-Trip and Post-Trip inspections (tires, brakes, signals, mechanicals) to ensure vehicle roadworthiness and to check for"sleeping children" as per NYS law.
  • Regulatory Adherence: Obey all NYS traffic laws, including specific school busreguthe maintenancelations (e.g., stopping at railroad crossings).
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Maintain a clean interior; monitor fuel levels; coordinate with themaintenance team for inspections and repairs.
  • Student Management: Enforce conduct and safety rules on the bus; verify permissions for children who ride home with friends.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS

  • Accountability: Take full ownership of vehicle safety and student supervision during transit.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a positive and professional attitude when in contact with students, parents, and school staff.
  • Adaptability: Adapt positively to schedule changes, weather-related delays, or varying trip durations.
  • Policy Compliance: Follow all policies and procedures in the associate handbook and NYS Article 19-A regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Licensing: Must possess a valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A, B, or C with “P” (Passenger) and “S” (School Bus) endorsements.
    • Note: Candidates must meet all NYS Article 19-A requirements upon hire.
  • Compliance: Must pass a pre-employment drug test, a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exam, and an annual defensive driving performance review.
  • Background: Must clear a criminal background check (fingerprinting) via the NYS Education Department and the DMV.
  • Skills: Dependability and flexibility are essential; must have strong communication skills and be able to speak English fluently to coordinate with dispatch and school staff.
