Description

The Business Manager is responsible for creating and implementing financial and business policies and strategies that align with the mission, vision, and core values of Lake Tahoe School. 

The incumbent is accountable to the Head of School and, working with the appropriate trustee committees, manages the school's financial resources in support of its students and employees. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, accounting, and reporting of revenue, expenses, contributions, and investments of the school, and all activities designated as Business Office responsibilities.

The Business Manager is an in-person role and attends all regular business meetings of the Board Of Trustees to provide full, accurate, and complete management and financial information as necessary to assist the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities. The incumbent attends all Finance Committee meetings and any ad hoc committees concerning finance, and maintains professional relationships with the school’s banks, auditors, investment managers, and insurance carriers.


FINANCE

 Prepares and reviews financial and budget statements, investment,   and capital project reports; makes presentations to the Head of School, Board,   and committees as appropriate. Keeps the Head of School and Board informed as   to the financial condition of the school.

Monitors all loans and indebtedness, including interfund loans   and transfers.


ACCOUNTING

Responsible for   establishing and maintaining appropriate procedures   and controls for all financial systems, in accordance with AICPA and FASB   standards, and for supervision of accounting and bookkeeping personnel.

Supervises   business office activities involving payroll, accounts payable, accounts   receivable, cash, financial aid, general ledger, purchasing, employee benefit   administration, taxes, and other accounting systems.

Coordinates relationship with the school’s independent auditors and   supervises preparation of work papers for annual audit. Responds to the   auditor’s administrative recommendations in the management letter.


STUDENT BILLING

Administers accounts receivable, parent loans, financial aid, and student contracts.

Responsible for oversight and collection of aged accounts receivable.

Works with parents on financial issues relevant to their children’s enrollment at the school.

In collaboration with the director of admission and the head of school, analyzes, reviews, and approves individual financial aid awards.

Administers   tuition refund insurance program, including filing claims and dispersing funds.

Requirements

Requires a Bachelor’s degree. 

An MBA or other related advanced degree is preferred. 

Requires 5 years of managerial-level accounting/financial business management experience, preferably in an academic environment. 

Requires knowledge of accepted accounting principles and experience with automated accounting systems. 

Requires excellent communication skills, and good interpersonal, organizational, leadership, management, and supervisory skills. 

Requires skill in the use of personal computers and accounting software systems, as well as word processing and spreadsheet packages. 

Builds and maintains strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.

Collaborates positively and effectively with cross-functional teams.

Demonstrates effective critical thinking skills.

Requires skill in the use of personal computers and accounting software systems.

Requires the ability to work independently as well as with staff, teachers, parents, and community groups at all times to exhibit a positive attitude, to be self-motivated, and to be able to cope successfully with stressful situations, schedules, and deadlines.
