Job Description

The Business Operations Director is a development role which is accountable for supporting organizational productivity and strategic alignment with focused support of the President and Chief Banking Officer. Under guidance of the President and Chief Banking Officer, this role will drive the execution of key initiatives, manage program delivery, develop, maintain and leverage critical relationships within CoBank, the Farm Credit System (FCS) and other stakeholders to help implement the division's strategic initiatives. The Business Operations Director is a role for candidates with demonstrated leadership capability, a strong background in business management, track record of cross-functional collaboration, and a capacity for career growth. The role provides exposure to enterprise-level priorities and cross-functional work, requiring sound judgment, strategic design, strong execution, thought leadership, and the ability to influence across stakeholders. Essential Functions

  • Coordinates and drives strategic business initiatives from development through successful execution under the guidance and direction of the President and Chief Banking Officer (CBO).
  • Facilitates the development, prioritization, and execution of the division’s short and long term strategic plans.
  • Participates with the President, CBO, and senior leadership team in strategic planning, policy development, and decision-making. Owns execution roadmaps for the bank’s 10-Year Strategic Priorities. Facilitates discussions, summarizes and develops actions from leadership meetings.
  • Serves as the liaison between the banking leadership team and other executives, divisions, and stakeholders, ensuring clear, consistent communication and collaborative decision-making across the institution.
  • Ensure timely and effective completion of projects and priorities for the President and CBO. Represent the President, CBO, and bank leadership team in select meetings and forums, with delegated decision-making authority as appropriate, including annual budget planning and forecasting.
  • Develops complex forecasting models, budgets, resource allocation and plans for projects. Secures required resources and uses formal processes and tools to manage resources, budgets, risks and changes.
  • Researches and recommends new and revised policies and strategies to enhance organizational effectiveness.
  • Creates, improves, and maintains systems and processes to streamline operations and to align strategies, priorities, and goals across the institution. Introduces disruptive ideas to the company's operations. Develops and rationalizes solutions, researching, designing, testing, and implementing innovative ideas.
  • Builds and develops positive and trusting relationships with all employees for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing operations, and help to define new operational strategies, working with President, CBO, and executives on special projects.
  • Co-leads the customer engagement survey execution and translates results into new strategies, activities, and engagement goals for the businesses.
  • Supports President and CBO leadership teams in effort to strengthen team cohesion, alignment, communication, and strategic execution.
  • Coordinates Banking Team representation in various internal communications activities including: CBO All Hands Meetings, The Source platform, CBO Leadership Meetings, EL Meetings, and Board Meetings, as well as other CoBank-hosted industry meetings.
  • Liaison with TDI and Experience/Product leadership, including significant interface with the Transformation Management Office. Initial focus includes technology roadmap and bridging priorities.
  • Works with, and may direct a portion of the work of, the Business Support Specialists.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by the President and Chief Banking Officer.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration or similar field preferred

Work Experience

  • 12 years of progressive experience in business operations, operational strategy, or enterprise operations within banking, financial services, or regulated financial environments required
  • 8 years of experience planning and leading strategic initiatives enterprise-wide, spearheading multi-disciplinary operational teams required
  • Prior Experience operating within highly regulated environments required
  • Prior Experience with financial planning, business process optimization, and risk management required
  • Prior Experience within CoBank and the Farm Credit System required
  • Strategic Data Analysis: Demonstrated expertise in leveraging data analytics to inform business decisions, drive operational improvements, and support strategic objectives.
  • Comprehensive Budget Management: Proven ability to develop, oversee, and optimize budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Project Leadership: Successful track record in coordinating complex projects across multiple departments, ensuring timely delivery and achievement of key milestones. Proven track record of designing, optimizing, and scaling business processes across complex organizations.
  • Innovative Problem-Solving: Agile business mindset with a focus on developing creative, scalable solutions to operational challenges and process inefficiencies.
  • Communication: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, enabling clear articulation of information, direction, and strategy to diverse audiences. Demonstrated expertise partnering with executive leadership to translate strategy into operational execution.
  • Advanced Time and Resource Management: Exemplary organizational and planning skills, with the ability to prioritize initiatives, manage competing deadlines, and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Analytical Acumen and Intellectual Curiosity: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a continuous drive for learning and improvement. Experience executing and operating with ambiguity.
  • Influence and Change Leadership: Established ability to influence outcomes, drive cross-functional collaboration, and lead organizational change initiatives.
  • Operational Reporting and Transparency: Expertise in developing and delivering comprehensive project and operational reports, with a focus on interdepartmental communication and transparency.
  • Technical expertise and a broad understanding of CoBank's divisions and business units, as well as knowledge of the customer base.

About CoBank

The typical base pay range for this role is between $133,100 - $300,000. Compensation may vary based on individual job-related knowledge, skills, expertise, and experience. This position is eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance. The listed salary, other compensation and benefits information is accurate as of the date of this posting.
