Summary

Responsible for assisting providers with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinic services.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office setting or Medical Assistant training program graduate.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for healthcare providers Certification.

Preferred

  • College curriculum.
  • One year Medical Assistant experience in corresponding setting.

Essential Functions

  • Performs patient care procedures under supervision of, and in assisting of Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner (i.e. dressing changes, minor procedures, and EKG’s).
  • Escort patient to exam room, obtain medical history, review/update medication list, measure vital signs including height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, temperature, and document all information in patient’s EMR.
  • Prepare and administer medications (topical, oral, injections) as directed by Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Authorize prescription refills (per Physician, Physician Assistant, and Nurse Practitioner) and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
  • Performs routine lab tests (urinalysis, rapid strep, A1C, etc) and logs accordingly in patient’s EMR.
  • Provides patient education with regards to medications, management of diseases, home treatments and special diets as directed by provider.
  • Ensure all related reports, labs, and information is available in patient’s medical records prior to their appointment.
  • Maintain supplies, equipment, stocks and sterilizes instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Triage and process messages, provide feedback, and answers to patient, providers, staff, and pharmacies.
  • Maintain logs and required checks (i.e. refrigerator temperatures, expired medications, emergency medications).
  • Performs front office/receptionist duties as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
