Injection Molding CMM Engineer

About the Role:

An Injection Molding CMM Engineer is responsible for ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality compliance of injection-molded components using Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) technology. This role combines expertise in plastic injection molding processes with advanced metrology, data analysis, and quality control practices.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) for dimensional inspection of molded parts.
  • Develop and validate CMM inspection programs using software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and CAD models.
  • Conduct First Article Inspections (FAI), capability studies, and PPAP documentation.
  • Analyze measurement data to identify trends, root causes, and process deviations.
  • Collaborate with tooling, manufacturing, and quality teams to resolve dimensional and process issues.
  • Support mold validation, mold trials, and new product launches.
  • Maintain calibration records and ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or customer-specific standards.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance product quality and reduce scrap.
  • Train technicians and operators on inspection methods and quality standards.

We would love to hear from you if:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–5+ years of experience in injection molding and CMM operation/programming.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T and blueprint reading.
  • Experience with CMM software (e.g., PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso, Mitutoyo MCOSMOS).
  • Familiarity with SPC, MSA, and quality tools (FMEA, 8D, root cause analysis).
  • Understanding of plastic materials and molding process parameters.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, NX, or similar preferred).
