Job Description
Title:  CNC Mill Operator
Reports To:  Production Manager
Status:  Full Time/Hourly Non-Exempt (40 hours/week; additional hours as needed to support organization and individual goals)

Job Requirements

High School Diploma or GED

Motor coordination, manual & finger dexterity

Industrial Truck License

Overhead Crane License

Ability to read and interpret documents

Ability to speak effectively before groups/employees

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions (written, oral, diagram, etc)

Knowledgeable of CNC and manual machines used to manufacture tooling

Organization skills

Computer skills

Job Summary

Set up and operate multi-axis milling machine to mill surfaces of steel work pieces by performing the essential job functions.

Essential Job Functions
Read process sheets, blueprints and sketches of parts to determine machining to be done, dimensional specifications, set up and operating requirements
Retrieve CNC program from DNC computer

Insert precision indicator in machine spindle, and depress switches to job spindle into contact with work piece, and synchronize the program and tooling

Retract spindle and load and secure first preset tool and holder (indicates tooling)

Start machine and observe cutting operation.  Operate machine and perform a dry run to indicate if programming is correct

Assemble and preset tooling for next operation during automated cycle to reduce machine down time

Replace milling tools with drilling and boring tools at specified change points to reduce or eliminate subsequent machining of work piece on another machine

Study job packet and organize materials for next run during automatic cycles to shorten change over time

Set up and operate another machine tool during CNC controlled machining cycles as necessary

Communicate with individuals associated with the production of each job

Perform and document specified inspection criteria

Identify and communicate any suspect and/or non-conforming product to the appropriate supervisor

Complete any necessary non-conforming product paperwork

Deliver non-conforming product to designated area

Scan on and off of all jobs ran during shift for costing analysis

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures and work instructions

Perform necessary machine maintenance at specified intervals

Ability to write simple correspondence

Ability to speak effectively with others

Ability to calculate figures

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
