About the Department
Works within the office of Fairfax County Dranesville District Supervisor James. N. Bierman, Jr. Staff Aide is expected to be a self-starter accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment. This position is responsible for a portfolio that includes communications and constituent services.
Duties include:
- Produce weekly events newsletter in coordination with District office staff.
- Manage and grow social media channels, including publishing prepared content on some weekends and evenings.
- Provide constituent services on various issues and serve as the liaison to county departments and state/federal agencies.
- Attend virtual and in-person stakeholder meetings and participate in community engagement events.
- Monitor projects and collaborate with County agencies on District initiatives.
- Assist with drafting of press releases, talking points, and board matters.
- Strong written, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to use discretion and be able to work independently.
- Basic skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent workplace software
Other Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in communications, public relations, political science, constituent services, event production, or similar line of work.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver’s license
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer. Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working in political settings.
- Experience utilizing Graphics software such as Adobe Photoshop and Canva and Newsletter software such as Constant Contact, GovDelivery, Mailchimp.
This position will require use of a personal vehicle to attend events outside of the office. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
